Fireproof: The Two Baptisms That Perfect You
Before you can become fireproof, you must first taste the fire.
Spiritual maturity is not measured by fasting, giving, or saving — it is measured by becoming an intercessor burdened for others. And true transformation comes through God's refining fire in two distinct stages: purification, which removes the contaminants embedded in your nature, and sanctification, which changes your outlook and associations until you lack nothing.
Teaching Overview
- The quickest way to grow spiritually is to become an intercessor — someone burdened by people's burdens, not merely a disciplined prayer warrior.
- Spiritual maturity is evidenced by the ability to solve people's problems, not merely by religious disciplines like fasting.
- Every believer encounters two baptisms in Christ: the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the baptism of fire.
- The baptism of fire operates in two stages — purification (removing contaminants) and sanctification (transforming your outlook and associations).
- The completion of God's refining process is confirmed by the absence of lack, because the perfected believer is declared to be lacking nothing.
Key Distinctions
| Prayer Warriors | Intercessors | |
|---|---|---|
| What they do | Pray frequently and with intensity | Carry the burden of people's specific needs and situations |
| Motivation | General spiritual discipline | Burdened by what others are going through |
| God's response | Prayer is heard | God confides in them — gives insight on what to pray for |
| Scope | Every Christian is a warrior | Not every Christian reaches this place |
| Spiritual outcome | Discipline is built | Rapid spiritual growth and prophetic development |
| Baptism of the Holy Spirit | Baptism of Fire | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Immersion into the Spirit of God — initiation into the life of the Spirit | The refining process God uses to purify and sanctify the believer |
| When it occurs | Upon encounter with Christ after repentance | Follows the filling of the Holy Spirit — a subsequent ongoing process |
| Example in Jesus | Holy Spirit descends on Him at the Jordan | Immediately driven into the wilderness to be tested |
| Common misunderstanding | Understood and desired | Misidentified as spiritual warfare fire — not universally desired |
| Purpose | Saving, filling, empowering | Perfecting, removing contaminants, transforming outlook |
| Being Used | Being Exploited | |
|---|---|---|
| What it means | Being an asset — others draw on your value and blessing | Being taken advantage of for someone else's gain at your expense |
| Is it positive? | Yes — it confirms you are useful | No — it is a violation |
| Who does it? | Anyone who values what God has placed in you | Those who take without regard for your wellbeing |
| God's example | God allows Himself to be used — "Lord, protect me, bless me, look after my children" | God cannot be mocked or taken advantage of |
| Response | Desire to be used — it means you are a blessing | Discern and refuse exploitation |
| Purification | Sanctification | |
|---|---|---|
| Stage | First fire | Second fire |
| Purpose | Remove contaminants — inherited, environmental, instinctual failures | Transform the believer's outlook and associations |
| What it targets | DNA of failure, poverty, stagnancy, limitation, confusion embedded in the nature | How you see situations, who you relate to, what appeals to you |
| Duration | Longest stage — extended by resistance | Follows purification; accelerated by surrender |
| Result | A nature with nothing Satan can appeal to | External change that flows from internal transformation |
| Internal Transformation | External Transformation | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | God-wrought change from within through the baptism of fire | Behaviour or appearance changes made by self-effort or performance |
| Durability | Permanent — sustained under pressure and trial | Temporary — collapses under struggle |
| Visible signs | Natural changes in time management, priorities, taste, and appetite | Changed dress, language, or religious activity without a changed nature |
| Test under pressure | Worship and praise remain — as with Job | Prayers decrease; person reverts to former patterns |
| Foundation | Built on the Word and the completed refining process | No inner foundation — external shell only |
| To Feel Alone | To Be Lonely | |
|---|---|---|
| What it means | A season of intimacy — "it's your time with you and Me" | A sign that something is wrong — true absence of companionship |
| God's presence | God is still there | God feels absent |
| Purpose | A necessary dimension of the refining process | Not God's design for the believer |
| Scriptural picture | "As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me" | Loneliness that has no divine purpose |
| Response | Surrender and trust | Seek restoration of connection |
The Quickest Way to Grow Spiritually
- Spiritual growth is not produced primarily by fasting, giving, or saving — it is produced by becoming concerned about what others are going through and praying for them.
- Jesus was effective because He was anointed for people's problems — intercession positions you in the same place.
- God will speak to the intercessor — not necessarily telling them what to say to people, but giving them insight on what to pray for.
"If you want to be strong spiritually, begin to pray for those who have issues, become an intercessor."
Intercession vs. Prayer Warriors
- Every Christian is a warrior, but not every Christian is an intercessor — the distinction lies in being burdened by people's burdens, not merely in the volume of prayer.
- An intercessor does not announce their prayers to those they pray for — doing so reveals a need for recognition, and God will not confide in someone who is looking for props.
- The hidden work of intercession is what positions a believer for rapid prophetic and spiritual development.
"When you're concerned about people, you start praying for people, putting yourself on the line for people. God will talk to you."
Evidence of Spiritual Maturity
- Spiritual maturity is evidenced by the ability to solve people's problems — a spirituality that helps no one is not mature spirituality.
- Fasting demonstrates discipline, not maturity — even those outside the Christian faith fast, and it means nothing in the sight of God apart from the transformation it is meant to produce.
- The purpose of being spiritual is to tame the flesh, because the flesh is weak but the spirit quickens it.
"How do you know you have matured spiritually? It's that your spirituality solves problems."
Being Used vs. Being Exploited
- Anything of value is used — to be used is confirmation that you are useful, and to be unused is to be without purpose.
- God allows Himself to be used — "Lord, I need You to protect me, Lord, I need You to bless me" — yet He cannot be exploited or mocked.
- The believer should desire to be used, because being used as a blessing means people run to you for solutions, direction, and prayer — you are an advantage to somebody.
"Anyone that cannot be used is not useful. You should want to be used."
The Two Baptisms
- The baptism of the Holy Spirit and the baptism of fire are two completely distinct experiences — to be baptized means to be immersed into something, initiated through a rite of passage.
- Most believers desire the baptism of the Holy Spirit but resist the baptism of fire — yet Jesus Himself received both at the Jordan and was immediately driven into the wilderness.
- The tongues of fire at Pentecost are not the baptism of fire — and the fire invoked in spiritual warfare prayer is not the same fire either; the baptism of fire is meant for the believer, not for demons.
"Before you can become fireproof, you must first of all taste the fire."
Purification: The First Stage of Fire
- Purification is designed to remove contaminants — the DNA of failure, stagnancy, sickness, poverty, confusion, and limitation embedded in a person's being through inheritance, environment, and relationship.
- Some things in us have become instinct through generations of survival and fighting — they are no longer conscious choices but reflexes, and only fire can deal with them.
- God cannot mold clay that still contains foreign particles — He must reduce the person entirely so that only what is moldable remains.
"Purification is designed to remove contaminants from you."
God's Purpose in Affliction and Financial Crisis
- Temptation is not primarily Satan's work — a person is tempted by their own evil, and Satan merely appeals to what is already inside.
- God will bring a season of poverty to a person who has placed money on a pedestal, so that they understand money is not their source, not their God, and does not control their destiny.
- When a person reaches the place where they can say "whether I have money or I have Jesus, it doesn't change anything," God has no problem giving them all the money in the world — because there is nothing in them Satan can appeal to.
"I rather my poverty be God than it be witchcraft or sorcery. I rather God be the result of my brokenness for a season. Because then there is a point to it."
The Example of Job
- Job's own confession reveals the purpose of his trial — "What I fear the most has come upon me" — God wanted to remove the fear itself.
- God will not spare any expense once a person gives themselves to Him — He will do everything under the sun to execute and to perfect His purpose in them.
- The reason God was confident Job would never turn against Him is because God saw that the transformation process had already happened within — when everything was stripped away, Job worshipped.
"God will not spare any expense, once you give yourself to him. God will not spare any expense to fulfill His purpose in you."
The Role of Resistance in the Purification Process
- The first stage of fire takes the longest because believers resist God — the more they resist, the harder and longer the process must be.
- Subconscious resistance happens when a believer tells God to work but then fights against the very process they consented to — the contract has been signed, and God will not stop.
- Surrender accelerates purification — when the believer yields and says "Father, Your will be done," the faster they pass through it.
"The sooner you surrender to it, the quicker you come out of it."
Sanctification: The Second Stage of Fire
- Sanctification is the second fire, and its purpose is transformation — after purification removes what is not of God, sanctification changes the believer's outlook to become God's outlook.
- During transformation, things that once appealed to the believer no longer appeal to them, and people and situations are outgrown — not because of offense, but because of elevation.
- The final resistance during sanctification is no longer internal or spiritual — because purification has removed everything Satan could appeal to — so the enemy's only remaining tool is other human beings and the realm of emotions.
"When God is transforming you, things that used to appeal to you will no longer appeal to you."
Internal vs. External Transformation
- True transformation begins within and produces natural, visible external changes — in time management, priorities, taste, and what a person gives their attention to.
- Externally-imposed change without internal transformation collapses under pressure — the person reverts to former patterns because there is no foundation coming from within.
- The evidence of genuine transformation under trial is worship — the evidence of false transformation is declining prayer and reversion to the flesh.
"Because the change was external, was never internal. So when they are shaken, you realize there is no foundation that is coming from within."
To Feel Alone vs. To Be Lonely
- To feel alone is not the same as being lonely — to feel alone means it is a season of intimacy between the believer and God; to be lonely means something is wrong.
- God can lead a believer into the valley of the shadow of death and through it — His presence does not remove the difficulty, but it removes the fear.
- The lesson learned in the fire is that even when it feels like God is not there, He is there — this is a lesson that cannot be learned any other way.
"To feel alone it means it's your time with you and me. To be lonely it means something is wrong. You've been alone but never lonely because I'm still with you."
Lack as Evidence of Incomplete Transformation
- Lack is a manifestation of incomplete transformation — the completed process produces a person who is lacking nothing, which is the testimony of Scripture.
- God who did not spare His own Son cannot logically withhold lesser blessings from the believer — the logic of the Cross demands abundance.
- God's opinion is what sustains the transformed believer when people disappoint — because the person who has been through the fire knows that man can fail, but God never will.
"The evidence of lack, it means that the transformation is not done. Because God says, He who did not spare His own Son — how can He now stop giving you something greater?"
Key Definitions
Intercessor — A believer who is genuinely burdened by the specific problems of others and prays for them without strings attached, without announcing it, and without personal gain — as opposed to a prayer warrior who simply prays in volume.
Baptism of Fire — The ongoing process by which God refines, purifies, and sanctifies the believer — completely distinct from the baptism of the Holy Spirit — operating in two stages: purification and sanctification.
Purification — The first stage of the baptism of fire, in which God removes contaminants — inherited, environmental, relational, and instinctual patterns of failure — embedded in a person's nature that cannot be removed by repentance or deliverance alone.
Sanctification — The second stage of the baptism of fire, in which God transforms the believer's outlook, associations, and appetites so that they no longer see things through their own opinion but through God's.
Contaminants — Fragments of failure embedded into a person's being through generations, environments, relationships, and survival instincts — not necessarily demonic, but exploitable by a demon — which resist God's molding until fire removes them.
To Feel Alone — A season in the refining process where a believer experiences the absence of human support or felt divine presence, not as abandonment, but as an appointed time of intimacy and formation between the believer and God.
Key Takeaways
- The quickest path to spiritual growth is intercession, not religious discipline — becoming burdened for others positions you where God speaks, builds you, and entrusts you with insight you cannot gain any other way.
- Every believer who encounters Christ will encounter both the Holy Spirit and the fire — desiring one while resisting the other is not an option; the fire follows the Spirit, just as it did for Jesus at the Jordan.
- Purification removes what repentance alone cannot — some patterns, reflexes, and inherited weaknesses are only dealt with through the sustained heat of God's refining process, and resistance only prolongs it.
- Sanctification is proven by what no longer appeals to you — the transformed believer does not force old associations or old appetites; they simply find they have changed, and God is confirmed as the source.
- Lack is theological evidence that the process is unfinished — God's design for the completed believer is that they lack nothing, and the Cross is God's own guarantee that nothing lesser will be withheld.
Reflection Questions
- Are you a prayer warrior or an intercessor — and what would it look like this week to begin carrying someone else's burden before God with no strings attached?
- When your life became more difficult after pursuing God more seriously, did you interpret that as God's absence or God's refining? What would change if you surrendered to it as a process rather than fighting it?
- What contaminant — a fear, an instinct, a pattern of response — do you recognize in yourself that repentance has not yet removed? Are you willing to let God's fire deal with it?
- What people, situations, or appetites are you holding onto that no longer reflect who God is making you? What is preventing you from releasing them?
- Is the lack you are currently experiencing a sign that the transformation is incomplete — and if so, what area of surrender does God seem to be waiting for from you?
Prayers and Declarations
Opening Prayer
"Father, we thank you in the name of Jesus for your mercy and compassion. We thank you Father that it is by your grace that we can stand in your presence. Father, we are not worthy, I am not worthy, but your grace qualifies us, where our works will completely fail us."
"Father, use it Father to bring us to a higher ground, where we can see your face. Glory to yourself even now, my Lord and my God, in the name of Jesus."
Congregational declaration — repeated multiple times:
"Say, God, I will be a prophet. Say, God, I am the prophet. I will be the prophet. Say, I will be the prophet. Say, I will be the prophet. Say, I will be the prophet."
Congregational surrender prayer — repeat after Prophet:
"Father, I surrender myself. Father, I surrender myself. Father, I surrender myself. Finish your work in me. Father, I surrender myself. Finish your work in me. Father, I surrender myself. Finish your work in me, God. Finish your work in me, God. I finish your work in me, Jesus. Shut the world. I surrender myself now. Finish your work, God. Finish your work, God. Let the purification process, God. Finish it, God. So that I may be sanctified God. So that I may be transformed God. Finish your work God. I surrender to the process God. I yield myself. Finish your work God."
Congregational declaration of surrender:
"Let my hands go, I surrender to the process God. Let me let my go, let my God, let my God. Let me let everything go God, let me burn God."
