Is God Our Heavenly Father? Understanding the Source of All Things
When you truly understand God as your Heavenly Father — not through earthly limitations, but as the source of all things — your prayer, your faith, and your spiritual authority are transformed.
God is not our Father in the way we commonly think. He is our Heavenly Father — and that distinction changes everything. The way believers understand fatherhood shapes how they pray, what they believe they can receive, and how they operate in spiritual authority. A limited understanding of God produces a limited life. This teaching opens the door to the fullness of what God has made available through Jesus Christ.
Teaching Overview
- God is not merely "our Father" — He is our Heavenly Father, the source of all things, and understanding this distinction transforms how believers pray and operate in faith.
- The word "Father" in the spiritual sense means source of all things — not a masculine biological figure — and God transcends all earthly comparisons of fatherhood.
- Without understanding, there is no spiritual growth — knowledge of who God truly is determines what you can receive from Him.
- Jesus is the channel through which the Father's fullness flows into creation; calling God "Father" in His name is an act of accessing the source of all things.
- Believers are ambassadors, not diplomats — occupying spiritual territory by decree, with authority that operates by law in the heavenly realm.
Key Distinctions
| Earthly Father | Heavenly Father | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A biological or human parental figure, shaped by human limitation and failure | The source of all things — eternal, uncreated, and unlimited |
| How it is defined | By experience, culture, and relationship with a human male | By Scripture and spiritual revelation — transcending gender and biology |
| Limitations | Can abandon, abuse, die, or fail in responsibility | Cannot be limited by timelines, conditions, or earthly ordinances |
| Basis of understanding | Formed through personal experience with an earthly parent | Formed through encounter, revelation, and the knowledge of God |
| How you receive from them | Through earthly processes, conditions, and proximity | Through Jesus as the channel — by faith, prayer, and spiritual authority |
| Risk if misunderstood | Distorts your relationship with God by projecting human failures onto Him | Limits what you can receive and how you exercise authority in the spirit |
| Ambassador | Diplomat | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A representative who operates by decree from a sovereign authority | A representative operating within the diplomatic protocols of a foreign nation |
| Basis of authority | A decree handed over and endorsed — giving legal occupation of territory | Status negotiated within the laws and permissions of another country |
| Territorial power | Nationals who flee to their embassy enter the territory of their home country — foreign authority cannot follow | Subject to the jurisdiction of the host nation |
| Spiritual application | Believers occupy spiritual territory by the authority of God — what is unlawful cannot enter by the law of the realm | Operating below this level leaves believers subject to what the enemy can do |
| Father as Masculine Figure | Father as Source of All Things | |
|---|---|---|
| Derived from | Earthly, biological understanding of a male parent | Spiritual revelation — the nature of God as origin and sustainer of all creation |
| Scriptural basis | Human cultural projection onto God | 1 Corinthians 8:6 — "one God, the Father, of whom are all things" |
| Image of God | Implies God is male | Genesis 1:27 — God made man male and female in His image; the image of God is both |
| Access it gives | Limited — prayer becomes asking a human-type figure | Unlimited — prayer becomes approaching the source of all creation |
| Obedience | Knowledge and Understanding | |
|---|---|---|
| What it produces | Faithfulness to what is commanded | Access to what God has made available beyond the minimum requirement |
| Limitation without the other | Obedience without knowledge keeps you limited to what you know to obey | Knowledge without obedience is fruitless — but obedience is not the ceiling |
| Scriptural anchor | "Trust and obey" — foundational walk of faith | "In all thy getting, get understanding" — Proverbs; "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" — Hosea 4:6 |
| Effect on prayer | You pray what you have been taught to pray | You pray with understanding of who you are addressing and what you have access to |
| Understanding | Ignorance | |
|---|---|---|
| Effect on spiritual growth | Promotes you — as children are promoted in school by their grades and comprehension | Keeps you at the level you are — like a learning disability that must be identified and reformed |
| Effect on prophecy received | You can encapsulate and receive what is spoken over you from a heavenly perspective | You reduce prophecy to earthly conditions and doubt what is impossible by earthly standards |
| Effect on authority | You occupy your territory and things unlawful to that realm are arrested without you making a statement | You remain vulnerable because you do not know the laws of the realm you operate in |
| Scriptural warning | "In all thy getting, get understanding" | "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" — Hosea 4:6 |
The Problem With How Believers Understand God
- Believers often repeat theological statements without thinking them through, and when those statements fail to produce results, they do not examine whether the formula they are applying is wrong.
- If God is true and whatever God says is the truth, then anything He commands must bear results — if it does not, the issue is not with God but with the one applying it.
- Spiritual humility is required to ask: Is my understanding incomplete? Have I missed something?
"We are not bold enough to sit down and say, maybe what I have been taught is wrong. Maybe how I understood was wrong because the Bible says, in all you're getting, get understanding."
God Is Our Heavenly Father — Not Merely Our Father
- Matthew 6:9 does not say "our Father" — it says "our Father which art in heaven." God is our Heavenly Father, and that distinction is deliberate.
- God disassociates Himself from the category of earthly fathers because earthly fatherhood is already tainted — some fathers are good, some are bad, some are abusive, some abandon their children.
- If a believer's concept of God as Father is shaped by their earthly father's failures — abandonment, abuse, absence — their relationship with God is already compromised before it begins.
"God is not our Father. God is our Father in heaven. God is our Heavenly Father."
The True Meaning of "Father": Source of All Things
- The word "Father" does not mean masculine in the spiritual sense — that is an earthly projection onto God, who is spirit and is neither male nor female.
- Genesis 1:27 reveals that God made humanity male and female in His image — meaning the image of God encompasses both, and when two come together in marriage, man is completed by the Spirit of God.
- Father, in its spiritual meaning, means the source of all things — as confirmed in 1 Corinthians 8:6: "to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things."
"The word Father means source of all things."
"The image of God is both male and female."
Jesus as the Channel Through Whom the Father's Fullness Flows
- In the Old Testament, no one could call God "Father" in the full sense because there was no mechanism to receive what the Father could give — Jesus had not yet been given.
- Jesus is the channel through which all things that are in the Father come into existence and into reality.
- Every time a believer says "Father, in the name of Jesus," they are approaching the source of all things and, through the name of Jesus, bringing into manifestation what exists in the eternal realm.
"Every time I say, Father, in the name of Jesus, what am I saying? Father, the source of all things. All things are in Him."
"When you use the name of Jesus, you are bringing it into existence or what we call reality."
Calling God Father Gives Access to the Source of All Creation
- When a believer can say "my Father" in the name of Jesus, they are declaring access to everything the Father has — not in the essence of God Himself, but in the ability to bring things through Jesus and into the world.
- Greater is He that is in the believer than he that is in the world — the Holy Spirit manifests what comes from the Father through Christ.
- In the Old Testament, those who called God Father had no means by which to receive what He could give because the Son had not yet been given; today, that channel is open.
"When I can say, my father, my God, I am already saying I have every power."
"Calling God your father is much more than what you think."
Degrees of Access and Qualification in the Spirit Realm
- Revelation 5:2–4 records a mighty angel asking who was worthy to open the scroll — none in heaven, on earth, or under the earth could open it or even look upon it, though many heard the call.
- The 24 elders occupy a higher dimension of heaven than those who heard the angel's call — their knowledge, their vision, and their access are far deeper and more profound.
- Not everyone who hears the voice of spiritual authority can open, read, or comprehend what is being presented — qualification determines access, not mere awareness of it.
"They were not qualified, even though they knew of it, they were not qualified to engage with it."
Understanding Determines What You Can Receive From God
- People live less than what they are supposed to receive from God not because God withholds, but because they are limited in their understanding of who He truly is.
- Hosea 4:6 declares that God's people perish not because the knowledge does not exist, but because they do not possess it — and what they do not know limits what they can receive.
- When people listen from a lens of criticism rather than humility, they cannot capture understanding — they demonize what they cannot relate to and remain at the level they are.
"We live less of what we are supposed to receive from God because we are limited in our understanding of who God truly is."
"When you are limited in your understanding, you will also be limited in what you can receive from God."
The Heavenly Perspective Breaks Earthly Protocol
- Prophecy operates from a heavenly perspective — not from earthly timelines, conditions, or processes — because the Heavenly Father is not bound by the ordinances of the earth.
- A believer may be single on earth, but in heaven they are already married; a situation may be impossible by earthly process, but it is already resolved in the heavenly realm.
- When a believer prays "Our Father who art in heaven," they are bringing what is already occasioned in heaven down to earth — not asking what is possible by earthly standards.
"What is impossible on earth is possible in heaven."
"You may be single, but in heaven you are married."
Believers Are Ambassadors, Not Diplomats
- Ambassadors carry a decree from sovereign authority — when that decree is handed over and endorsed, they occupy their territory with the full weight of their nation behind them.
- Nationals who flee into an embassy are no longer in a foreign country — they are on the soil of their country of origin; foreign authorities cannot lawfully follow them in.
- Believers occupy spiritual territory by the authority of the Heavenly Father — and certain things are unlawful in that territory, arrested by the law of the realm without the believer needing to make a statement.
"We are not diplomats. We are ambassadors."
Key Definitions
Heavenly Father — God understood not through earthly fatherhood but as the sovereign source of all things, dwelling in heaven and operating above earthly timelines, conditions, and limitations.
Father (spiritual meaning) — The source of all things; not a masculine biological figure, but the origin from which all creation proceeds — as stated in 1 Corinthians 8:6: "one God, the Father, of whom are all things."
Understanding — The depth of comprehension that determines spiritual growth and access; without it, a believer cannot be promoted in the things of God, just as a child cannot advance in school without it.
Ambassador — A representative who carries a decree from a sovereign authority, occupies territory in the name of that authority, and operates under laws that supersede the jurisdiction of the land they are in.
Knowledge — The possession of spiritual truth that gives a believer advantage and access; its absence — not its non-existence — is what destroys God's people (Hosea 4:6).
Channel (Jesus as channel) — The means through which all things that exist in the Father are brought into creation and reality; the name of Jesus is the instrument by which what is eternal enters manifestation.
Key Takeaways
- God is our Heavenly Father — the source of all things, not a heavenly version of an earthly father — relating to God through the lens of human fatherhood projects human limitations and failures onto the unlimited source of all creation.
- The word "Father" means source of all things, not a masculine figure — this distinction liberates believers from a restricted understanding of God and opens access to the fullness of what He holds.
- Without understanding, there is no spiritual growth and no fullness of what God has for you — knowledge of who God truly is is not optional for the mature believer; it is the condition of access.
- Jesus is the channel through whom the Father's fullness flows into reality — every prayer said "in the name of Jesus" is an act of translating what exists in eternity into manifestation.
- Believers are ambassadors carrying a heavenly decree — and by that authority, they occupy spiritual territory where what is unlawful cannot enter — this authority operates by law, not merely by petition.
Reflection Questions
- When you pray "Our Father," what image of fatherhood are you actually drawing on — and how much of it is shaped by your earthly experience rather than by the Scriptures?
- If God is truly the source of all things and you have access to Him through Jesus, what specifically are you still treating as unavailable or impossible for your life — and why?
- Where have you been listening from a lens of criticism rather than humility, and what understanding might you have missed as a result?
- Are you operating as an ambassador — one who occupies territory by decree — or as a petitioner asking a distant authority for favors? What would change in your prayer life if you fully believed the former?
- Which teaching in this message most directly challenged the ceiling you have placed on what you expect from God — and what is one concrete step you can take this week to align your understanding with your Heavenly Father's reality?
Prayers and Declarations
"You are too blessed to be wasted, you are too powerful, go and walk in the glory of God and manifest the glory of God in Jesus' name."
Let us pray:
"Our Heavenly Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but Father deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever in Jesus' name."
