Purpose, Calling, and Destiny: The Foundation of a Successful Christian Life
Your purpose is not something you create or pray into existence — it already exists within you, fixed from birth, waiting to be discovered.
Every question about God's will — Am I doing the right thing? Am I in the right direction? Why is it taking so long? — finds its answer in one place: knowing your God-given purpose. Purpose is fixed, immutable, and the greatest spiritual weapon available to a believer. Without it, your prayer life is off, your spiritual warfare is weak, and you are racing against an enemy who knows exactly why he is here.
Teaching Overview
- Purpose is fixed and immutable — it cannot be changed, created, or imitated, and it already exists from the moment of birth.
- Calling is the expression and means of purpose — it is not the end result, but what makes purpose come alive.
- Destiny is the end result — the final destination that purpose and calling are moving you toward.
- Spiritual warfare flourishes in purpose — no demonic force can stop what God has ordained for a person living in their purpose.
- Operating outside your purpose produces fruitlessness — even large, visible ministries or success accumulations mean nothing if they are disconnected from divine assignment.
Key Distinctions
| Purpose | Calling | Destiny | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Why God created you; the reason for your existence | The specific expression and means through which purpose comes alive | The end result; where purpose and calling are carrying you |
| When it is set | Fixed from birth — before you pray, before you choose | Activated and expressed through your assignment | Unfolds as purpose and calling are fulfilled |
| Can it change? | No — purpose is immutable and cannot be changed or imitated | Callings differ; not everyone receives the same assignment | Destiny is the fixed destination; the path to it is shaped by obedience |
| Who defines it | God alone — not family background, not talent, not gifting | God — your calling is unique; two people called to preach will not carry the same message | God — Satan knows his destiny and it is the pit; believers' destiny is complete prosperity of soul and spirit |
| What happens without it | Prayer life is misdirected; you pray for things outside your reason for being | You copy others, chase trends, and remain ineffective | You are vulnerable to deception and can be displaced by the enemy |
| How it is discovered | Through relationship with God — fasting, prayer, and knowing your why | Through knowing your purpose first — calling flows from it | Through walking in purpose and calling until the end is revealed |
The Crisis of Not Knowing Your Purpose
- Most believers ask, "What is my calling?" — but almost no one asks, "What is my purpose?"
- Calling is not the end result; calling is the means to purpose, the expression of purpose, what makes purpose come alive.
- When you do not know your purpose, your entire prayer life is off — everything you pray for will be outside of why you were created.
"People mainly focus on calling. But yet calling is the means to your purpose. Calling is the expression of your purpose. Calling is not the end result. Calling is what makes your purpose come alive and for you to enter your destiny and your destination."
The Nature of Purpose
- Purpose is why God created you — it has nothing to do with how you feel and everything to do with what God ordained before your birth.
- Purpose cannot be changed, and because it cannot be changed, it also cannot be imitated — no one can copy what was uniquely ordained for you.
- You do not step into your purpose — from the moment you are born, purpose has already started.
"You don't step into your purpose. Your purpose is why you're here. From the time you're born, purpose already started. You don't pray for God to give you a purpose. You pray for you to know your purpose because it already exists."
The Assignment Is the Growth
- The assignment itself is the growth — there is no prayer that makes a ministry grow separate from operating in the God-given assignment.
- God's will carries God's provision — when you are fighting and wrestling for what you are building, it may be a sign you are outside your assignment.
- Every person in their assignment has a unique message; two people called to preach will never be given the same word, because if they were, there would be no need for one of them.
"The assignment is the growth. The assignment is the growth."
God's Goodness Versus Satan's Limitation
- God causes rain to fall on the good and the wicked — He does not bless people because they are Christian; He blesses because He is good.
- Satan cannot give anyone anything — everything he offers was given to him, and his power on earth is borrowed and limited.
- Satan is dangerous only because he knows his purpose; his entire strategy is to occupy people who do not know why they are here.
"Satan loses against everyone that knows why they're here because then you realize Satan created his purpose. It's not a divine purpose. So you can beat him anytime because he self appointed himself into his purpose because he was put on earth for you to trample over him."
Spiritual Warfare and Purpose
- Spiritual warfare does not flourish through methods or techniques — it flourishes in purpose.
- When God has said yes to a person and ordained their purpose, no demonic force carries the authority to say no.
- Romans 8:28 only operates fully for those called according to God's purpose — being in purpose means everything works together for good.
"No demon has the power to stop you when you're in your purpose. Every single thing that God ordained will work for your good."
Purpose Is Fixed — Stop Listening to the Purposeless
- Purpose is not seasonal — it does not shift with time, trends, or circumstances.
- Those who are not in their purpose are not qualified to speak into your purpose — they do not have the authority to correct what God has ordained for someone else.
- Those who know their purpose are the only ones who remain for decades — genuine longevity in any field is rooted in divine assignment, not strategy or imitation.
"Purpose cannot be changed. Purpose is not seasonal. Purpose is fixed. That is why I can't listen to somebody who is not in their purpose. They are not qualified to tell me what to do."
The True Nature of Prosperity
- There is no gospel called "the prosperity gospel" — every gospel is prosperous, because every word that brings someone to Jesus brings them to prosperity.
- True prosperity encompasses the prosperity of the soul, the mind, and every dimension of success and fulfilment — it is not exclusive to finances.
- Suffering is a part of the Christian journey, but suffering is not the destination — the believer's destiny is complete prosperity of soul, spirit, and life.
"Every single word that brings you to Jesus brings you to prosperity. Prosperity of your soul, prosperity of your mind, and many times prosperity that is financial but not exclusive to finances but it encapsulates everything that denotes success and fulfillment and that is prosperity. That is real prosperity."
Key Definitions
Purpose — Why God created you; your fixed, immutable reason for being born. It cannot be changed, created, or imitated, and it already exists from the moment of birth.
Calling — The specific expression and means through which purpose comes alive. It is not the end result but the vehicle that carries you toward your destiny.
Destiny — The end result; where purpose and calling are moving you. As Prophet Lovy states: "Destiny is end result."
Assignment — The specific work God has appointed for you to do; not merely a task but the vehicle of growth itself — "The assignment is the growth."
Prosperity — Everything that denotes success and fulfilment in every dimension of life — soul, mind, relationships, and provision. Not exclusive to finances but encapsulating all that constitutes doing well.
Custom — A practice or habit that a person loves and God may applaud, but that is not necessarily their ordained purpose. Jesus attended the synagogue as His custom, not as His purpose.
Key Takeaways
- Purpose is fixed and cannot be changed or imitated — because it is immutable, no one can replicate what was uniquely ordained for you, and no one can take it from you.
- Calling is the means to purpose, not the goal — chasing calling without first knowing purpose produces misdirected effort, copying others, and spiritual fruitlessness.
- Spiritual warfare is won in purpose — the enemy's greatest advantage is not power; it is occupying people who do not know why they are here.
- True prosperity is the full will of God — it encompasses soul, mind, and life — and it is the believer's destiny, not suffering.
- God does not accept all good — only the good He ordained for you — doing the right thing outside your purpose is still outside God's will for your life.
Reflection Questions
- Can you clearly articulate why you are here — not your gifts, your talents, or what you enjoy, but the specific reason God created you? If not, what is preventing you from seeking that answer?
- Are the things you are currently praying for connected to your God-given purpose, or are they general desires disconnected from why you were born?
- Whose voice are you currently following — and are they operating in their own God-given purpose, or are they guiding you from a place of purposelessness?
- Where in your life are you copying someone else's assignment instead of seeking your own? What would it look like to stop imitating and start discovering?
- If the assignment truly is the growth, what does the resistance and struggle you are currently experiencing tell you about whether you are in or out of your assignment?
Prayers and Declarations
"I want us to pray together that your purpose, your calling will amount to the destiny that God has ordained for you. I want you to engage with God as I pray for you tonight."
"Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray for that man, that woman watching this video right now. Lord, they have been torn about their purpose, their calling, and their destiny.
Some don't even know what their purpose and their calling is. But my Father and my God, you have made it clear today that their purpose is the reason why you created them, and their calling is their means to their purpose. And when their purpose and calling comes together, then they enter into what you call their prophetic destiny. I pray, O Lord, that anyone that does not know what way they should go, any one of them that is still confused about what their purpose is, Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus that that which you ordained from the beginning for their sake shall be revealed unto them even now in the mighty name of Jesus. I pray that their understanding will be unlocked. I pray that their ears will be opened. Their heart will be positioned the correct way that they may have all that you have prepared for them from the foundations of the earth. Lord, I cancel every lie of the enemy. Father, I cancel every lie of the enemy, every word of defeat, every word of confusion, every word of limitation, every word of doubt, every word of self-sabotage.
I rebuke every emotion that does not proceed from you. May it catch fire in the name of Jesus. May it be removed from your people in the name of Jesus. I push them today where you have called them. Father, your word clearly says that their purpose cannot be taken from them. Your word says clearly that if they love you, they are called according to your purposes, then everything in their life works for their good. Father, give them courage today. Give them strength to understand that it's not over yet. They may be in the prison, but that is where they will find a way to the throne. They may be in the pit, but that's where they will find their way to the throne. Make them see today that what the world calls defeat, you call victory, because you are sending them into territories that nobody in their families, in their communities has been in because it takes a different path to get to what you want them to have. Father, everybody can choose an easy way. Anyone can choose what is simple, but you call them for greatness.
You anointed them for greatness. You call them for greatness. You anointed them for greatness. And so their journey is different. Give them the strength to walk through that different journey that will bring them to a higher place than anyone they know in the mighty name of Jesus."
