The Feet of God: The Dimension of Sitting at Jesus' Feet
The Feet Of God · Part 1 of 2
Where you sit determines where you walk — and who teaches you determines the direction of your life.
The feet of God are not a physical location but a spiritual dimension — a realm of intimate learning, transformation, and divine knowledge. Every member of God's body carries prophetic and symbolic meaning, and the feet are no exception. Understanding what it means to sit at the Master's feet is not optional for the believer; it is the very posture that determines where your own feet will go.
Teaching Overview
- Every member of God's body is symbolic and prophetic — the right hand represents power and strength, and the feet represent the place of knowledge and learning.
- Sitting at Jesus' feet is a spiritual dimension, not merely a physical posture; it is where true knowledge of God is received and the direction of one's life is set.
- Satan lost his feet as a divine judgment, and because he can no longer truly teach, he can only deceive and pervert truth — producing the chaos and perversion visible in the world today.
- Many believers are ready to serve God like Martha but have never sat at His feet like Mary; prayer alone does not constitute sitting at the Master's feet.
- Without the posture of learning at God's feet, believers ask wrongly, receive recycled messages instead of fresh revelation, and never mature in true intimacy with God.
Key Distinctions
| Image | Likeness | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The outward representation or appearance | The inward nature and spiritual reality hidden within |
| Commonly misunderstood as | Physical appearance — two hands, two feet, a face | A synonym for image, assumed to mean the same thing |
| What it actually communicates | A symbolic or reflected form | The true nature being expressed through the symbol |
| Implication for humanity | Physical form is shared by angels, animals, and men | The image of God in man is a manifestation of something that cannot be seen |
| Right Hand of God | Human Strength | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | God's power and might resting upon a person | The natural ability, wisdom, and effort of the individual |
| Origin | Divine appointment and grace | Natural capacity and self-reliance |
| Results produced | Supernatural, disproportionate to the effort | Limited to what the person can produce |
| What it means for the person | Everything prospers regardless of the task | Success depends on conditions, skill, and circumstance |
| Biblical example | Joseph and Jacob — they prospered in everything | Effort without the hand of God resting upon you |
| Satan's Former Authority | Satan's Current State | |
|---|---|---|
| What it was / is | A cherubim with feet — a being capable of teaching and directing | A deceiving spirit without feet, crawling on its belly |
| Mode of influence | Could position himself as a teacher and draw people to sit at his feet | Can only pervert and twist truth; cannot truly educate |
| Effect on people | Could direct the feet of those who sat under him | Can only inject venom that distorts thinking and perception |
| Divine judgment | Feet removed by God's curse in Genesis 3 | Permanently stripped of authority to establish a place of learning |
| Martha's Service | Mary's Learning | |
|---|---|---|
| Posture | Active — busy with much serving | Still — seated at Jesus' feet, hearing His word |
| What it produces | Labor, distraction, and complaint without spiritual depth | Revelation, transformation, and the "good part" |
| Jesus' verdict | Careful and troubled about many things | Chosen the one thing that is needful |
| Problem | Serving God without being taught by God | None — this is the model Jesus commended |
| Prophetic Description | Literal Appearance | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Symbolic language communicating a spiritual attribute or reality | The actual visible form of an angelic or divine being |
| Example | Seraphims with eyes all over their bodies — symbolising fullness of spiritual perception | Gabriel appeared to Daniel as a man — he had the appearance of a human being |
| Common error | Treating symbolic biblical descriptions as photographs of literal form | Assuming that because something is described, it must look exactly that way |
| Correct interpretation | Eyes represent sight; horns represent authority and power; prophetic language reveals spiritual truth | Mysteries remain — there are things within Scripture that are not fully disclosed |
| Prayer | Sitting at God's Feet (Intimacy) | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Communicating with God — speaking and asking | A posture of learning, receiving, and being taught by God |
| What it produces | Requests, petitions, and intercession | Revelation, knowledge of God's mind, and spiritual maturity |
| Limitation | Many who pray have no revelation of the mind, desire, or thinking of God | Requires humility and a specific posture of receptiveness |
| Result without the other | Prayer without intimacy leaves the believer spiritually unchanged from year to year | Intimacy without prayer is incomplete — but prayer cannot substitute for being taught |
| Recycled Messages | Fresh Revelation from God | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The same doctrines preached repeatedly, without new revelation | Teaching that God has revealed to the minister through sitting at His feet |
| Source | Head knowledge, tradition, and repetition of previously learned material | The Holy Spirit taking of Jesus and giving it to the one who has sat at His feet |
| Effect on the congregation | No spiritual upgrade in knowledge or understanding of God | Growth in intimacy, maturity, and capacity to know God more deeply |
| Biblical basis | Absent — there is no biblical model for stagnant, unchanging revelation | The Holy Spirit was sent to lead believers into all truth |
The Symbolic and Prophetic Meaning of God's Body
- Every member of God's body is symbolic and prophetic in meaning.
- The appearance of something is not the image of something — the image of God is hidden within His likeness.
- Physical form — two hands, two feet, a face — is shared by angels and animals; what distinguishes man in God's image is a manifestation of something that cannot be seen.
"The appearance of something is not the image of something. The image of God is hidden within His likeness."
The Right Hand of God as Power and Grace
- The right hand is an earthly terminology — a language for men to understand God's strength and favor; in culture, the right hand is the serving hand, the hand that represents the best of you.
- Jesus seated at the right hand of the Father means He is positioned at the fullness of God's power — there is not a separate throne, but one throne, and Jesus occupies the position of power within God.
- To see Jesus, to experience Jesus, is to experience the fullness of the power of God — nothing was created without Him, and everything was created by Him, through Him, and for Him.
"When the hand of God is on you, it is impossible for you to fail. So we know that the right hand of God is not really a hand, but it is an experience."
When the Hand of God Rests Upon a Person
- When the hand of God rests upon someone, there is a manifestation of grace, favor, power, and might — a side of God that person experiences that others will not have the opportunity or grace to experience.
- Work becomes effortless because it is no longer the person working — it is the Holy Spirit, the power of the Lord Jesus, backing every endeavor.
- It does not matter what Joseph did — he prospered; it did not matter what Jacob did — he prospered; when the right hand of God is upon you, every stumbling block placed before you becomes a platform.
"When the hand of God is on you, everything just works. Because hands represent labor. It means that God will work for you."
The Feet as the Place of Knowledge
- The feet represent the place where knowledge is received and the direction of one's life is set.
- Whenever God wants to fortify and stabilize a man or woman, Scripture speaks of strengthening their feet — the hooves of the ox in the vision of the four living creatures represent strength and stability.
- Sitting at the feet of the Lord Jesus is a spiritual dimension — not a physical posture — and many believers have never entered it.
"Whoever's feet you sit under will determine where your feet go. The feet represent the place that you receive knowledge."
The Curse of the Serpent and the Removal of Satan's Authority
- Eve was deceived because she was at the feet of the serpent — the serpent questioned her, taught her, and directed her feet in the wrong direction.
- When God cursed the serpent, He took away its feet — removing its authority to function as a teacher and a place of learning.
- The seed of the woman still has feet; the serpent does not — this is why the believer treads upon serpents and scorpions, and the son of the woman strikes the serpent's head.
"The reason why Eve was deceived is because she was at the feet of the snake. That is why you find when God curses the snake, He takes away his feet. Because the feet represent the place that you receive knowledge."
Satan's Current State: Perversion Without Authority
- Because Satan lost his feet, he can no longer truly teach — he has become a deceiving spirit whose only function is to pervert the knowledge that people already have.
- The venom of the serpent does not only cause physical harm — it distorts the psyche and the mind; when no one strikes Satan's head, his venom goes unchecked.
- The perversion dominating the world today — where words have lost meaning, identity is inverted, and everything is circumstantial — is the direct manifestation of the deceiver who can no longer educate but can only spew venom.
"Everything has been perverted. Up is down, down is up. The deceiver who can no longer educate is now just spewing venom."
Martha and Mary: Serving Without Learning
- Many believers are ready to serve God like Martha — but very few are willing to sit at the Master's feet like Mary to be taught.
- Prayer alone does not constitute sitting at the Master's feet — many people pray and yet have no revelation of the mind, the desire, or the thinking of God.
- Believers who have never sat at God's feet believe today exactly what they believed years ago — there has been no spiritual upgrade in the knowledge or understanding of God.
"Everyone wants to serve God, but very few people have sat down to be taught by God."
The Posture Required to Sit at God's Feet
- There is a specific posture of humility and receptiveness required to sit at God's feet — a posture that says to God, "I am ready to learn."
- Even what we ask God must be educated — Solomon asked for wisdom to lead God's people, and God said he had not asked for the heads of his enemies or for silver and gold; God gave him everything he never asked for because of how he asked.
- God observes how you ask — the quality and nature of your requests tells God whether you have sat at His feet.
"Even what we ask God must be educated. God observes how you ask; it tells God if you have sat at His feet."
The Danger of Never Sitting at God's Feet
- Without sitting at God's feet, believers treat God like a wishing lamp — asking for vain temporal things rather than eternal things, because they do not have the capacity for anything deeper.
- Many ministers are preaching recycled messages — the same doctrines from January to December, year after year — without fresh revelation from God.
- True intimacy with God means knowing Him more deeply; when the ability to know Him is gone, intimacy dies even while the relationship continues.
"But what has God revealed to you, that you can use the Bible to prove? If God appears to you and you have not sat at His feet, you will ask for vain things and not eternal things."
Key Definitions
Image — The outward symbolic representation of something; not the same as physical appearance. As Prophet stated: "The appearance of something is not the image of something."
Likeness — The inward nature and spiritual reality hidden within the image; what God was referring to when He said, "Let Us make man in Our image and Our likeness" — the unseen dimension of what man carries.
Right Hand of God — Not a literal hand but an experience of God's power, favor, and might resting upon a person; it is the position of fullness within God where Jesus is seated, and when it rests on a person, everything they do prospers supernaturally.
Feet (prophetic) — The symbolic place of knowledge and learning; the feet represent where direction is received, and whoever's feet you sit under determines where your own feet will go.
Sitting at Jesus' Feet — A spiritual dimension of intimate learning before God; not a physical posture but a realm of receptiveness in which God teaches, reveals, and imparts knowledge of His mind and desire.
Perversion — The work of Satan in his current state — having lost his feet and his authority to truly teach, he can only twist, invert, and distort truth; perversion is the venom of a deceiver who can no longer educate.
Intimacy with God — Knowing God more deeply over time; to be intimate with someone is to know them, and when the ability to know that person grows no further, intimacy dies even while the relationship continues.
Key Takeaways
- Every member of God's body is symbolic and prophetic — understanding these symbols unlocks the deeper meaning of Scripture and prevents the error of reading divine descriptions as merely physical or literal.
- The feet represent the place of knowledge — and whoever teaches you determines where you go — this is why Eve's deception began at the serpent's feet, and why God's first act of judgment was to remove the serpent's feet.
- Satan, stripped of his feet, can only pervert truth, not teach it — the chaos, inversion, and meaninglessness dominating culture today is the direct result of a deceiver who has been reduced to venom without real authority.
- Serving God without sitting at His feet produces spiritual immaturity — like Martha, many are busy, but without Mary's posture, there is no revelation, no upgrade, and no true intimacy with God.
- God observes how you ask — and it reveals whether you have sat at His feet — Solomon's request for wisdom demonstrated a heart formed by proximity to God, and God honored it with everything Solomon never asked for.
Reflection Questions
- When you spend time with God, are you primarily speaking to Him in prayer — or have you created space to be still and receive His teaching? What would it look like to genuinely sit at His feet this week?
- Whose feet have you been sitting under — whose voice, whose teaching, whose influence has been shaping the direction of your life? Is that the feet of the Master, or something else?
- If God appeared to you today and said, "What do you want?" — would your request reflect the wisdom of someone taught by God, or would it reveal that you have been asking for vain things rather than eternal things?
- Where in your life do you recognize the venom of the serpent — distorted thinking, inverted values, or confusion about what is true — and what would striking the serpent's head look like in that area?
- What is one area where your belief about God has not changed or grown in years? What is holding you back from pursuing deeper revelation, and what would you need to lay down in order to receive it?
Prayers and Declarations
Lift your hands, and say this:
"Please lift your hands, Mama. Lift your hands. Close your eyes. Tell her to close her eyes. Tell her to look to Jesus. Tell her to look to God and just say thank you. In our own language, she does just tell Mama in her ears to look to Jesus and just say thank you."
"We need to pray for your sister if we don't pray for her, she's going to die. I'm seeing one of our sisters sick. She's at the brink if we don't pray. She will go, but I want God to extend her life. Amen!"
"It's already approved. It will work out. Go get what is yours. Say the mighty name of Jesus."
"I believe that God is going to do something amazing for us all. I believe that the grace of God is with us. And I believe that we are going to continue to see the mighty hand of God that will continue to take us from level to level, the dimension to dimension and from glory to glory."
