The Language of God Pt 2: Tongues, Spiritual Dialogue, and the Direct Line to God
The Language Of God · Part 2 of 2
True spiritual engagement with God requires operating from your spirit — and tongues is not mere utterance, but a living dialogue between you and God Himself.
Every authentic engagement with God happens in the spirit, not the flesh. The tongue is not simply a prayer tool — it is a coded, direct line of communication between you and God, where He speaks and you speak, simultaneously. Understanding the types of tongues and how they function transforms your spiritual life from religious routine into genuine dialogue with the living God.
Teaching Overview
- Authentic service and engagement with God requires functioning from your spirit — not your flesh, your intellect, or religious performance.
- Fear and faith are both fed by information; you strengthen faith by filling your spirit with truth until it becomes your reflex.
- Tongues is one essential channel of praying in the spirit, but not the only one — praying with understanding can also be spiritual.
- There are distinct types of tongues: the tongues of men, the diversity of tongues, the tongues of angels, and the tongue of God — each functioning as a real spiritual language.
- Praying in the tongues of God is a dialogue, not a monologue — God speaks and you speak simultaneously in a coded exchange.
Key Distinctions
| Carnal | Spiritual | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Operating from the flesh — the simplest, most basic level of existence | Operating in the likeness and manner of the Spirit of God |
| Who can be this | Any person, including born-again Christians and even angelic beings (Lucifer chose carnality) | Those who engage God from their spirit man |
| Effect on service | God does not recognise the service — He does not know you | God is served and encountered genuinely |
| Spiritual discernment | Cannot perceive or discern spiritual things | Able to discern spiritual things (1 Corinthians 2) |
| Fear | Faith | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A spirit empowered by false information you have believed | A reflex built by truth you know until it overflows |
| What feeds it | Misinformation — believing the report of Satan | Truth — knowing what God has said and done |
| Its nature | Belief in a lie so complete it empowers the spirit of fear | Belief in truth so complete it becomes your automatic response |
| Its remedy | Perfect love — the assurance of what God's love is, which is information | Continued feeding of truth until faith becomes uncontainable |
| Praying in Tongues | Praying with Understanding | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | One channel of praying in the spirit | Praying from your heart or mind while still being in the spirit |
| Unique benefit | Direct, coded dialogue with God; edifies and fortifies the spirit | Strengthens comprehension and conscious alignment with God's will |
| Who understands it | No man understands it — God alone | Both the speaker and others can understand it |
| Is it spiritual? | Yes — powerfully so | Yes — a person can pray with understanding and still be praying in the Spirit |
| Tongues of Men | Diversity of Tongues | Tongues of Angels | Tongue of God | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Speaking a known human language under spiritual unction | Supernaturally speaking a human language you have not learned | A heavenly dialect directed to the angelic realm | An unknown tongue spoken directly to God — a coded divine dialogue |

| Who understands it | Those who speak that human language | Native speakers of each language present | The angelic realm | God alone — no man understands it |
| Primary function | A sign that all creation will confess Christ | A sign to unbelievers — draws the lost | Spiritual communication in the angelic dimension | Direct dialogue with God; builds faith; edifies the spirit |
| Monologue | Dialogue | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | One-way communication | Two-way exchange between you and God |
| Common misconception | That tongues is simply you speaking to confuse the devil | Tongues is God speaking and you speaking simultaneously |
| Result | No response received | Instruction and revelation come from your own mouth through interpretation |
| How to access the full benefit | N/A | Pray for the gift of interpretation so you know exactly what God said |
| Wanting | Desiring | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Wishful thinking — passive and uncommitted | A burning, driving force you cannot contain until it is fulfilled |
| Does it cost you anything? | No — it requires no action | Yes — it drives you to pursue until you receive |
| Effect on spiritual gifts | Insufficient to receive — God gives according to desire, not want | Positions you to receive — God gives according to your desire |
| Biblical instruction | N/A | "Desire spiritual gifts" (1 Corinthians 14:1) |
| Physical Service | Spiritual Service | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Serving God through outward religious activity — singing, ushering, giving | Serving God with your spirit — the only service God actually recognises |
| Biblical example | Many will say "Lord, we prophesied in Your name" (Matthew 7:22) | Paul: "God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit" (Romans 9:1) |
| God's response | "Get away from Me. I do not know you." | Genuine interaction with God — He recognises and engages you |
| The danger | You move with an idea of God while never actually interacting with Him | Those who do not function in the Spirit can never truly interact with God |
The Difference Between Being Carnal and Being Spiritual
- God is a Spirit, and every authentic engagement with Him must come from your spirit — not your emotions, intellect, or physical activity.
- You can be born again, sing praise and worship, play instruments, serve as an usher, and clean the church — and still be completely carnal if you are not doing it in the spirit.
- When Jesus says "I never knew you" to those who prophesied and worked miracles in His name, it is because they never interacted with Him in the Spirit.
"There is no service, there is no interaction, you will ever have with God if it is not with your spirit."
"Many will come and say, Lord, we prophesied in your name. Lord, we did this in your name and Jesus will say, get away from me. I don't know you. Why? Because you never interacted with Him in the Spirit."
The Nature of the Spirit and the Danger of Walking in the Flesh
- If you have never understood how your spirit man works, you are in danger of walking in the flesh — even as a Christian.
- The instruction "walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfil the lust of the flesh" means making your spirit the source from which everything you do originates.
- The devil himself is a spiritual being who chose carnality — classified in Scripture as nothing more than a man.
"If you have never understood how your spirit man works, you are in danger of walking in the flesh."
"To be spiritual is to follow in the likeness and in the manner that the Spirit of God is."
Fear and Faith: The Power of Information
- Fear and faith are both powered by the same mechanism — information you have received and fully believed.
- Fear is a spirit fed by misinformation; faith is a reflex built by truth fed into your spirit until it cannot be contained.
- Love is not an emotion — love is information. God demonstrated His love by giving His Son, and that information, when acted on, produces faith.
"Fear and faith are exactly the same thing because they all depend on information. You are afraid because of misinformation. You have believed the report of Satan."
"Love is information. That is why the Bible says, For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son."
Worship: Offering Your Heart Beyond What God Has Done
- Worship is powerful precisely because it shifts your entire focus from yourself to God — and has nothing to do with what He has given you.
- God never commanded Adam to worship Him; worship is a free-will offering because love does not compel.
- Genuine worship is simply you and God — not because of blessings, healing, provision, or favour, but because of who He is.
"It is simply you offering your heart to him. It's just you and him. What he means to you, not because of what he has given you, simply because of who he is."
Praying in the Spirit: More Than Tongues
- Praying in the Spirit is not synonymous with praying in tongues — tongues is one channel of praying in the Spirit, not the only one.
- A person can pray with their understanding and still be praying in the Spirit.
- The command to walk in the Spirit means moving everything you do from the perspective and consciousness of your spirit — not merely speaking in tongues.
"Praying in tongues is one of the ways of praying in the spirit, not the only way. Tongues is one of the channels. It is important. It is powerful, but it's just one of the channels."
The Purpose of Every Engagement with God
- Every engagement you have with God will always function within His purpose and His will — these two things must work together.
- God always reveals His purpose first, then His will — as He did with Adam in the garden.
- For your prayer to be effective, and for anything spiritual you do to be effective, it must be grounded in understanding God's purpose and God's will.
"Every engagement you have with God, every single engagement you have with God, will always function within his purpose and his will."
The Tongues of Men: Spiritual Language in Human Speech
- The tongues of men refers to God speaking subliminally through a person's natural human language — the same language they already speak.
- This is why when one person says "God bless you" it carries weight and something is spiritually transferred, while another person says the exact same words and nothing is felt.
- The same principle applies to declarations of faith — one person says "Amen" and something is fulfilled in the spirit; another says the same word and nothing changes.
"God will speak subliminally in your language. That is why some people can tell you, God bless you. And it feels like God gave you something. And somebody else will say, God bless you. And it just feels like it's a statement. There is nothing spiritual that is backing it."
The Diversity of Tongues: Supernatural Language at Pentecost
- The diversity of tongues is the supernatural ability to speak a human language you have never learned, as the Spirit gives utterance.
- At Pentecost, the disciples did not speak in unintelligible sounds — they spoke the actual native languages of every nation present, declaring the wonderful works of God.
- Every man heard the disciples speak in his own language — people from Africa, Arab nations, Asia, and beyond all heard their own mother tongue.
"They began to speak Chinese. They began to speak Japanese. They began to speak Korean. They began to speak English. They began to speak Ethiopian. They began to speak Zulu. They began to speak Lingala. They started speaking other tongues."
"Every man heard them speak in his own language."
Tongues as a Sign to Unbelievers
- Tongues is for a sign to the world; prophecy is for the believer — prophecy edifies the church, but tongues is what draws the lost.
- Many give their lives to God because of the sign of tongues — hearing their own language supernaturally spoken is irrefutable evidence of the divine.
- Carnal minds cannot process the supernatural — those who mocked at Pentecost said the disciples were drunk, because shallow thinking can never account for spiritual reality.
"Tongues is for a sign for the world. Prophecy is for the believer. Prophecy does not win the lost. Prophecy strengthens the believer. Tongues is a sign to the unbeliever."
The Tongues of Angels and the Tongue of God
- Beyond the tongues of men and the diversity of tongues, there is the tongues of angels — a dialect directed to the angelic realm.
- The tongue of God is an entirely new tongue — unknown to any man, spoken not to men but directly to God.
- Not speaking in any form of tongues is a sign of unbelief, because these signs follow those who believe — not merely those who are born again.
"He that speak it in an unknown tongue, speak it not to men but unto God. For no man understand it him, how be it in the spirit, he speak it mysteries."
"If you don't speak with tongues, any of the tongues, it's a sign of unbelief."
Tongues as Dialogue, Not Monologue
- When you pray in the tongues of God, it is not a one-way communication — it is a coded language in which you are speaking to God and God is simultaneously speaking back.
- Tongues has nothing to do with confusing the devil — it is about direct dialogue with God, not spiritual warfare strategy.
- Praying for the gift of interpretation unlocks the full benefit of this dialogue — so that when you finish praying, you know exactly what instruction God gave you, because it came from your own mouth.
"When you pray in the tongues of God, which no man understands it, listen to me. It is not just you speaking, but it's also God speaking back. It is a coded language that you are talking with God at the same time God is answering."
"Never subject your prayer because of the devil. Praying in tongues is a dialogue. It's not a monologue."
The Benefits of Tongues: Edification and Spiritual Fortification
- The first benefit of praying in the tongues of God is direct reception — God is speaking to you, not just listening to you.
- The second benefit is edification — the word "edify" comes from the word "edifice," meaning a high tower, a fortress that cannot be overcome or pulled down.
- Many Christians are weak in faith and weak in the spirit because they do not pray in tongues; tongues is information from God that actively builds and increases faith.
"He that speaker in an unknown tongue, edified himself. The word edify there is the word edifice, meaning at a high tower, it's like a fortress that cannot be overcome, cannot be pulled down."
"The highest level of tongues is when you can control it. Because it's a dialect."
Desiring Spiritual Gifts
- The Scripture commands you to desire spiritual gifts — anyone who tells you desiring gifts is a sign of unbelief is lying.
- You will never walk in tongues, prophecy, miracles, or any other spiritual gift unless you desire it — God gives according to desire, not want.
- Wanting is wishful thinking; desiring is a burning drive that cannot be contained until it is fulfilled, and desire is what positions you to receive from God.
"You will never speak in the tongues of God if you don't desire. You never walk in the prophetic if you don't desire. You never do them miracles if you don't desire. You never move mountains unless you desire."
"Desires drive you. Wanting is wishful thinking. Desire is something that is burning in you that you cannot contain it until you get it."
Key Definitions
Spirit — The innermost part of a person through which all genuine engagement with God occurs; the only part of you that can interact with God, who is Himself a Spirit.
Tongues — Not mere unintelligible sounds but a full spiritual dialect — a language given by the Holy Spirit — encompassing the tongues of men, the diversity of tongues, the tongues of angels, and the tongue of God.
Dialogue — A two-way coded exchange in prayer where you speak to God and God simultaneously speaks back; the nature of praying in the tongue of God.
Edify / Edification — From the word "edifice" — to build up as a high tower or fortress that cannot be overcome; what praying in tongues does to the spirit of the one who speaks.
Desire — A burning internal drive that compels action and cannot be contained until it is satisfied; distinct from wanting, which is merely wishful thinking that requires no pursuit.
Love — Not an emotion but information — a demonstrated commitment that, when received and acted on, produces faith and removes fear.
Key Takeaways
- God can only be served with your spirit — No amount of religious activity, no matter how sincere, constitutes genuine service to God unless it is done from your spirit; God does not recognise what is done in the flesh.
- Fear and faith operate by the same mechanism — Both are powered by information you have believed completely; to overcome fear, you do not suppress it — you replace it with truth until faith becomes your reflex.
- Tongues is one channel of praying in the spirit, not the only one — Understanding this prevents both the error of dismissing tongues and the error of making it the sole measure of spiritual life.
- The tongue of God is a direct, two-way line of communication — Praying in the tongues of God is a dialogue in which God speaks back to you simultaneously; interpretation unlocks the full instruction God releases in that exchange.
- Desire is the prerequisite to receiving spiritual gifts — God gives according to desire; if there is no desire burning in you for spiritual gifts, there is no ground for Him to release them to you.
Reflection Questions
- Are you serving God from your spirit, or from a form of godliness — activity, habit, or appearance — that has never truly engaged Him at the level of your spirit?
- What information are you feeding most consistently — truth that builds faith, or fear-producing reports you have accepted as reality? What would change if you deliberately fed your spirit truth until faith became your reflex?
- Have you reduced "praying in the spirit" to one expression alone? What would it look like to expand your spiritual engagement beyond what you currently practise?
- If tongues is a dialogue and not a monologue, how has your understanding of prayer in tongues changed — and are you positioning yourself to receive what God is speaking back to you in that exchange?
- Is what you have toward spiritual gifts a genuine desire — something burning and driving you — or is it merely a want? What specific step can you take this week to stir desire in your spirit for more of God?
