Developing the Soul Pt 3: Pouring Yourself Into the Eternal
Developing The Soul · Part 3 of 3
What you pour yourself into determines what you become — and what becomes of you.
The soul occupies the unique position between spirit and body, serving as the gateway through which the eternal can reach the physical. Spiritual power, resurrection life, and the manifestation of God's glory are not produced by belief alone — they are produced by what you pour yourself into. Attachment to temporary things severs access to the eternal realm. Detachment, surrender, and union with God are the conditions under which the Spirit overtakes the physical and makes the impossible manifest.
Teaching Overview
- The soul is the only dimension of the human being that simultaneously bridges the spiritual and physical realms, and its development determines whether the Spirit or the flesh governs your existence.
- Whatever enters the spiritual realm can never be destroyed, depleted, or consumed — while everything that remains in the physical perishes.
- Attachment to temporary things prevents access to the spiritual realm and causes a person to perish along with what they have poured themselves into.
- True sacrifice is never commanded by God — it is what you willingly release from your deepest attachment, as demonstrated in the tests of Abraham and the widow of Zarephath.
- Pouring yourself into Christ — not merely believing in Him — is the condition for manifesting resurrection life, miracles, and the power of God.
Key Distinctions
| Spirit | Soul | Body | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | The eternal part of a person bearing the nature of God | The personal identity bridging spirit and body | The physical vessel confined to the natural realm |
| Where it exists | Confined to the spiritual world | Exists simultaneously in both the spiritual and physical dimensions | Confined to the physical world |
| What happens at death | Returns to God — it is always part of God | Faces eternal consequence; the only part that can go to hell | Begins decomposition immediately upon death |
| Relationship to destruction | Cannot be destroyed; whatever enters the spirit can never perish | Perishes if poured into temporary or sinful things | Dies and decays unless swallowed up into the spirit |
| Role in spiritual access | The source and head that the soul must align with | The servant of the spirit; the channel through which the body accesses the spirit | Gains access to the spiritual only through a developed soul |
| Physical Realm | Spiritual Realm | |
|---|---|---|
| Nature | Temporary, subject to decay, depletion, and death | Eternal, inexhaustible, and indestructible |
| Limits | Resources run out; fire burns; chains bind; water drowns | No lack, no emptiness; fire cannot consume; chains fall away; water cannot drown |
| How accessed | Default existence of the unregenerate soul and body | Accessed through detachment, soul development, and pouring oneself into God |
| Biblical examples | Bread that runs out; chains that bind Peter; fire that burns | Multiplied loaves; Peter's chains falling off; Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego untouched |
| Sacrifice | Command | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A voluntary release of what you are most attached to | An instruction or directive given by an authority |
| Who initiates it | The individual, from their own will and love | God or a delegated human authority |
| What it proves | The depth of your love and where your true attachment lies | Obedience, but not love or detachment |
| Biblical example | Abraham offering Isaac; the widow feeding Elijah from her last meal | God telling Abraham to multiply; a court ordering payment of a debt |
| Spiritual consequence | Releases you into the eternal; proves love to God | Fulfils a duty; does not constitute sacrifice |
| Believing in God | Becoming What God Says | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Intellectual or doctrinal assent to God's existence and promises | Pouring yourself into God until you and His word are one |
| Source of power | The truth acknowledged from a distance | The truth inhabited and embodied |
| What it produces | Faith in a future event or outcome | Manifestation of that event in the present |
| Biblical example | Martha believing Lazarus would rise at the last day | Jesus declaring "I am the resurrection" — being the day, not waiting for it |
| Limitation | Cannot raise the dead; cannot walk on water | Raises the dead; transcends physical laws |
The Soul as the Bridge Between Spirit and Body
- The soul is the only dimension of the human being that manifests simultaneously in both the spiritual and the physical realms.
- When the soul is developed and aligned with the spirit, the spirit becomes the governing dimension — swallowing up both soul and body, so that the outer person is spiritual.
- An undeveloped soul creates a blockage between spirit and body, which is why believers can invoke the name of Jesus and see no result.
"If the soul is not developed, there is a clogged in between that nothing can go to the other side. And the other side cannot come this way. This is why we have Christians that say, in the name of Jesus, huh? Power in the name of Jesus and nothing is happening because nothing is accessing the other side because the soul has a problem."
Whatever Enters the Spirit Can Never Be Destroyed
- Whatever is placed into the spiritual realm cannot be depleted, consumed, or destroyed — because there is no lack on that side.
- This is why the burning bush was on fire but not consumed — the tree had been swallowed up in the spirit and could not be touched by the physical flame.
- The multiplication of bread was not a natural replication — the bread was placed into the spiritual realm where the category of "running out" does not exist.
"Whatever enters the other side can never run out. Whatever enters the other side can never run out. Whatever gains access to the other side can never run out. It's impossible because there's never emptiness on that side. There is never lack on that side."
Detachment as the Condition for Spiritual Access
- Attachment to temporary things — relationships, possessions, comfort, legacy — prevents the soul from crossing into the spiritual realm.
- Jesus demonstrated absolute detachment from family, from personal reputation, and from natural affection — He was attached only to His Father and to Himself.
- The man whose father had died was told by Jesus to let the dead bury the dead — because remaining in that attachment meant joining what was already headed toward death.
"Whatever you love, you pour yourself into it. So if you love temporary things, you pour yourself into it, you become what? Temporary. You pour yourself into something eternal, then you live on beyond time."
Sin Is Destined for Destruction — and So Is Whoever Pours Into It
- Sin itself is what is destined for hell — not human beings. But a person who pours themselves into sin travels with sin to its appointed end.
- God is not destroying the person — He is destroying sin. The person perishes only because they have invested themselves in something that was always going to be destroyed.
- The wages of sin is death not because God wants to punish the sinner, but because death is the destination of sin itself, and whoever is joined to it arrives at the same place.
"It's not that God wants to destroy a person. It is because they have poured themselves into something that was going to be destroyed anyway. So they end up being destroyed."
Peter Walking on Water: The Pattern of Pouring Yourself In
- A spirit cannot sink or drown — it can pass through material things or hold them, according to its will.
- Peter walked on water not because of his own faith, but because of who he poured himself into — the moment he returned to himself, he sank.
- The same principle governed Peter's escape from prison: his chains fell through him rather than breaking, and the iron gate opened of its own accord, because Peter had been swallowed up into the spiritual dimension through the angel.
"Fate was not because of him. It's because of who he poured himself into."
Enoch, Joseph, and Union with God
- Enoch walking with God means he continually poured himself into God until he was no more — his own person dissolved into the One he walked with.
- Joseph's declaration to Pharaoh — "Tell me your dream, for it is God who gives all dreams" — was not a referral to pray; it was a declaration that Joseph and God had become one person.
- Union with God is the condition for manifesting His power: Jesus stated that without Him you can do nothing, and that His words are spirit and life because He had poured Himself into His words.
"Becoming what God is saying and reading what God is saying are two different things."
True Sacrifice: Releasing What You Are Actually Attached To
- God never commands what to give — because a command is not a sacrifice; it is an obligation.
- Abraham's gold, silver, and offerings to Melchizedek were never true sacrifices, because he was not attached to those things. The true test came with Isaac, because Isaac was his legacy — what he was actually poured into.
- The widow of Zarephath was under a divine verdict to feed Elijah, but she never heard the command directly — the invitation came through a human being, because a human being can challenge sacrifice in a way that a direct command from God cannot.
"God never trusted Abraham. Because Abraham loved something, he poured himself into something more than God. For God to say, now I know that you love me — it means all those days, Abraham was giving silver and gold and everything, God was just like, you're not attached to those things. Let me see if you give me what you're attached to."
Resurrection Life Requires Pouring Into Jesus, Not Believing About Him
- Believing in the resurrection produces faith in a future event — it does not produce resurrection in the present.
- Jesus declared "I am the resurrection and the life" — not "I will bring the resurrection." He was the day itself, and pouring yourself into Him brought that day into the present moment.
- You cannot raise the dead by pouring yourself into grief, into the grave, or into the circumstances — resurrection only manifests when you pour yourself into the One who is the resurrection.
"So you can never raise the dead until you have poured yourself into Jesus who raises the dead."
Key Definitions
Soul — The personal dimension of a human being that exists simultaneously in both the spiritual and physical realms, serving as the servant of the spirit and the channel through which spirit and body access each other.
Pouring yourself in — The act of directing your love, will, attention, and identity entirely into something until you and it become one; whatever you pour yourself into, you become.
Attachment — A relationship formed with temporary, non-eternal things — possessions, relationships, legacy, comfort — that prevents the soul from crossing into the spiritual realm and causes the person to perish along with what they are joined to.
Sacrifice — The voluntary release of what you are most deeply attached to; it cannot be commanded by God, because a command produces obedience, not sacrifice. True sacrifice reveals and proves the location of your love.
Swallowed up in the spirit — The condition in which the spiritual realm overtakes the physical, so that material laws no longer apply — fire cannot consume, chains fall away, water cannot drown, and resources cannot be depleted.
The resurrection — Not merely a future eschatological event, but a Person — Jesus Christ Himself — who is the very principle of resurrection life, such that pouring yourself into Him brings resurrection power into the present moment.
Key Takeaways
- The soul is the only part of you that bridges both worlds — developing your soul is not optional for spiritual power; an undeveloped soul creates a blockage that prevents the Spirit from reaching the body and the body from accessing the Spirit.
- Whatever you love, you pour yourself into — and you become what you pour into — if your love is directed at temporary things, you will perish with them; if directed at the eternal, you carry the nature of what cannot be destroyed.
- Attachment to temporal things is a spiritual death sentence — not because God is punishing you, but because you have joined yourself to something already headed toward destruction.
- True sacrifice is always self-initiated, not commanded — what God tests is not your generosity with things you are indifferent to, but your willingness to release what you are most deeply attached to.
- Pouring yourself into Jesus — not believing about Him — is what produces miracles — Peter walked on water, Lazarus was raised, and the dead come back to life when someone pours themselves into the One who is the resurrection, not when they hold doctrinal belief about it.
Reflection Questions
- What are you currently most attached to — and is it eternal or temporary? What does that attachment reveal about where you have been pouring yourself?
- Is there an area in your life where you have been believing about God rather than pouring yourself into God? What would change in your prayer, obedience, or surrender if you moved from belief to union?
- What is the thing you would find hardest to release if God tested you the way He tested Abraham? What does that reveal about where your deepest attachment actually lies?
- Where have you been expecting spiritual results — healing, provision, breakthrough — while still pouring your emotional and mental energy into the problem, the grief, or the circumstance rather than into Christ?
- What specific attachment do you need to cut this week in order to give your soul room to align with the spirit — and what is the concrete step you can take to begin?
