The Language of Spiritual Beings Revealed: Discernment, Imagination, and the Voice of God

Teaching by Prophet Lovy L. Elias · Watch on YouTube · 21 February 2024

Spiritual maturity is not measured by religious activity but by how well you know the mind, character, and voice of the living God.

Life is primarily spiritual — and every believer is surrounded by spiritual beings whose voices, inspirations, and intentions constantly seek access to the human mind. The critical question is not whether spirits are speaking, but whether you can distinguish between them. Understanding the language of spiritual beings — how they communicate, how they deceive, and how God's voice is activated through sacrifice and self-awareness — is the foundation of true spiritual maturity.

Teaching Overview

  1. Spiritual maturity is measured by knowledge of God's mind and character, not by spiritual gifts or religious activity.
  2. Believers must understand the language of spiritual beings to distinguish God's voice from angelic communication, demonic whispers, seducing spirits, and lying spirits.
  3. The first stronghold believers must pull down is imagination — not external demonic powers — because demons gain access primarily through the thought life.
  4. The Word of God is a shadow pointing to Jesus; true knowledge of God transcends information and is cultivated through encounter, sacrifice, and self-awareness.
  5. Sacrifice is the primary activator of heaven's communication — God begins speaking more to those who surrender what they treasure most.

Spiritual dangerPeople who leave darkness may have a new spirit but an unrenewed soul — still seeing through old patternsA reborn spirit does not guarantee a transformed way of thinking
Practical implicationFormer occult practitioners who come to Christ may still process reality through darkened soul patternsGrowth requires deliberate renewal of the mind and soul, not just spiritual conversion

Life Is Primarily Spiritual

  • Just because you are Christian does not mean you are spiritual — spiritual growth determines closeness to Jesus, not religious identity.
  • Spiritual gifts do not measure personal maturity; God can give gifts to anyone, including a drunkard, for the benefit of others.
  • Whatever happens in the spiritual realm directly affects the physical — living without authority in the spirit leaves you defenseless against demonic attack.

"To know the mind and the heart of God is the height, it is the Mount Everest of spiritual ecstasy — nothing goes higher than knowing the mind and the heart of God."

The Language of Spiritual Beings

  • Every believer is surrounded by billions of spiritual beings, and no decision is ever made without the participation of a spirit.
  • Believers must be able to distinguish between the voice of the Holy Spirit, the voices of angels, demonic spirits, seducing spirits, and lying spirits — just as naturally as distinguishing different languages or accents.
  • A Spirit-filled believer who cannot tell whether God or their own flesh is speaking is operating in carnality — spiritual fullness produces discernment, not confusion.

"You have never made a decision without the participation of a spirit."

Satan Does Not Have the Mind of God

  • There is no scripture that says the devil knows the Bible — the Scripture is the mind of God, and Satan does not possess the mind of God.
  • Quoting a line or two from Scripture is not the same as knowing the Word; the Word is Jesus, who has been from the beginning — Satan was not present in the beginning.
  • Satan's knowledge comes to nothing; believers carry the Spirit of God who is eternal, without beginning or end, which is why a believer can defeat an ancient spirit like the devil.

"Satan does not have the mind of God. Just because he can quote a line or two doesn't mean he knows the mind of God."

Imagination Is the First Stronghold

  • The weapons of spiritual warfare are not carnal but mighty through God — and their first target is not witchcraft, not enchantment, but imagination.
  • You are not what you pray — you are the imagination in your mind; if your prayer declares success but your imagination sees failure, your prayer is powerless.
  • Demons gain primary access through the thought life; failing to cast down imagination means the enemy's greatest weapon remains untouched.

"The first thing you're supposed to cast down is your thoughts. There is a reason you struggle with demons — it's because you have not taken the number one thing demons use."

The Word Points to Jesus — Not as a Substitute for Him

  • The Word of God is a shadow of God's knowledge — not the fullness of it; following the principles of Scripture leads you toward Him, but the Scripture itself is not the destination.
  • Jesus declared that the scriptures only point to Him — having the Bible does not give life, just as Freemasons possess the King James Bible yet end up in the occult.
  • Reducing God's communication to the written Word alone is a doctrine that cuts believers off from dreams, angelic encounters, the voice of the Spirit, and the great cloud of witnesses described in Hebrews 12.

"The word of God is a shadow of God's knowledge. It is not the fullness of God's knowledge."

Hebrews 12 and the Heavenly Assembly

  • Believers have come unto Mount Zion — their spirit is no longer confined to the physical realm but is present in the city of the living God, surrounded by an innumerable company of angels.
  • The heavenly assembly includes not only angels but the spirits of just men made perfect — human beings who have died and been perfected in heaven, who may appear and be mistaken for angels.
  • Elisha's servant could only see the enemy because his imagination was overwhelming the knowledge of God; when his eyes were opened, he saw what Elisha already knew — they were surrounded by heaven's army, not the enemy's.

"If you saw them, you think they are angels, but they are not even angels. It is in your Bible. But because you don't read, because you lack superstition, you miss God."

Discerning Spirits by Character, Not Words

  • Study the characters and attitudes of the patriarchs and angels in Scripture so that when inspiration comes, you can test it by its character — not its words, because words can be good while the character is wrong.
  • The Word of God is sharp, dividing soul from spirit, bone from marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intent of the heart — discernment goes beyond stopping the devil's action to knowing his intent.
  • Jesus identified Satan speaking through Peter not because the words were obviously wrong, but because He knew the intent was to keep Him from the cross.

"Judge it by its character, not by its words, because the words can be good, but the character is not it."

Self-Awareness as Spiritual Defense

  • You cannot stop imaginations, inspirations, thoughts, and voices from entering — you are called to govern them, not to pray against them as though they can be permanently silenced.
  • Perverse spirits cannot be bound by rebuke alone — the solution is self-awareness; becoming conscious of every utterance, every anger trigger, every unexamined desire that a spirit may be feeding.
  • The danger of too many words is that the speaker does not know who or what is inspiring them — let your answers be yes or no, and everything beyond that requires examination.

"You cannot stop imagination, inspiration, thoughts and knowledge coming into you. You are supposed to govern it."

Sacrifice Activates Heaven's Voice

  • What moves God to speak more to a believer is not the volume of prayer but the level of sacrifice — God wants what you treasure most, because that surrender is the culture of the kingdom.
  • Cornelius received supernatural encounters because of genuine love and sacrifice; Abraham heard from the angel of the Lord because he was willing to sacrifice Isaac.
  • Sacrificing for yourself, for others, and for the work of God shifts you into a place where heaven becomes actively interested in you — because if you can give up what you love most, you have given your life to Him.

"What moves God to start actually speaking to you more is your sacrifice level."

Key Definitions

Spiritual Maturity — Not measured by spiritual gifts or religious activity, but by how much of God — His mind, His character, and His ways — you have come to know personally.

Information — Data received secondhand that may or may not be true; the devil possesses information about Scripture but has no knowledge of God's mind, ways, or thoughts.

Knowledge — The experience of being present when something is happening; direct encounter and proximity to God rather than secondhand data.

Imagination — The first stronghold that spiritual weapons are designed to pull down; the inner thought-pictures and self-perceptions that either align with or exalt themselves above the knowledge of God.

Presenting / Posing — Pretending to be something you are not; Satan can present himself as an angel of light, but presenting is not the same as being — deception only needs time to reveal itself.

Sacrifice — The primary activator of heaven's communication; not limited to money but includes giving up whatever you treasure most — the act of surrender that signals to heaven that you have given your life to God.

Self-Awareness — The key spiritual defense against perverse and seducing spirits; the cultivated ability to examine every thought, utterance, and impulse to discern its source before acting on it.

Key Takeaways

  • Spiritual maturity is measured by knowledge of God, not by gifts or religious output — Gifts can be given to anyone; only deliberate growth into God's mind and character constitutes true spiritual development.
  • You have never made a decision without the participation of a spirit — Because life is primarily spiritual, every believer must develop the discernment to identify which voice they are responding to at any given moment.
  • The first stronghold is imagination, not external demonic forces — Demons access believers primarily through the unguarded thought life; casting down imagination is the prerequisite to every other form of spiritual warfare.
  • The Word of God points to Jesus — it is not a substitute for encounter with Him — Limiting God's communication to the written text alone cuts believers off from the full range of ways He speaks, including through the Spirit, dreams, and the heavenly assembly.
  • Sacrifice is what activates heaven's voice — The culture of the kingdom is giving up what you love most; the deeper the sacrifice, the more actively heaven communicates with and through you.

Reflection Questions

  1. When you hear an impression, desire, or inspiration, do you examine its character and intent — or do you simply act on it because the words sounded right or good?
  2. What does your imagination consistently tell you about your future, your worth, and your circumstances — and does that picture align with the knowledge of God or exalt itself above it?
  3. Are you measuring your spiritual growth by how much of God you actually know, or by how much you pray, how often you attend church, or what gifts you operate in?
  4. What do you treasure most right now — and have you genuinely surrendered it to God? How might holding it back be limiting what heaven is saying to you?
  5. In your closest relationships, what voices and imaginations are you allowing to shape how you see your spouse, your children, or those you lead — and where are those thoughts actually coming from?

Prayers and Declarations

Opening / Closing Intercessory Prayer

"Father, I pray for your children. I lift them up and I pray that you will do what no man can do. Father, you are the one that nurtures us by your Spirit. And it is by your Word you feed us to strengthen us, both our spirits and our souls, and even our body. Father, I pray, you who is merciful, full of grace, compassion, that Lord, you will not look at our weaknesses, but rather perfect us according to your will. My Lord and my God, you created us to be conformed to the image of your only Son, your begotten Son Jesus Christ. So, Father, I pray that the mind of Christ, the attitude, the character, the ways of your Son as He was on the earth as a man, that we will be able to achieve the same integrity in your eyes, that we will have such a tremendous level of discernment and understanding of spiritual matters that we will never shipwreck when it comes to hearing your voice. Father, our desire is to hear you and to know you clearly. Father, we don't want corrupt communication in our ears. We don't want demonic spirits whispering in our ears. We don't want satanic powers whispering in our ears. Your word says that our weapons are mighty through God in bringing down strongholds in our mind, in our imagination, every thought and imagination and knowledge that lifts itself above you. Father gives us the ability to filter information that comes into our mind. Father, I have learned and we have all learned that the defense of the Spirit is not simply rebuking. It is not only desiring or praying for an edge of protection, but the greatest protection we need is to mature to decipher your voice from the counterfeit voice, from seducing spirits, which will take many, many, many, many, many from the faith. Father, we don't want to be those who will miss our place. When the trumpet sounds, Father, we want to be among those who will be caught up. We don't want to be among those who will be left. We want to be able to prepare our families, not only for your coming, but also our ministries, our projects and those things that you have given us to do on earth. My Lord and my God, you who is able to do all things. We surrender all things in your hands today. If you could speak to Cornelius, you can speak to us. If you could speak to Pharaoh who was a wicked man in your sight, worshiping idols, but for the sake of Israel, you gave him a dream showing him seven years of drought and seven years of plenty. Lord, you can speak to anybody. Cain killed Abel but you still spoke to him. Father, you have redeemed us from the sins of our flesh, the sins of our minds and our hearts, and you have moved us into the kingdom of light, sanctified purified by the Holy Spirit. How much more for us will belong to you? How much more valuable are we? How much more are we candidates of receiving your voice? Father, we know your voice builds. We know your voice empowers. Your voice directs. Your voice does not divide. Your voice heals. Your voice restores. Your voice has the power to shatter the demonic powers, the demonic authorities, and your voice brings light and clarity. Lord, I pray, may your voice be in everyone's ear that is hearing right now. Minister to their hearts, Minister to their spirits, Minister to them aloft and show them your grace and your mercy. Father, I thank you that it is done for each and every one of us. Give us a heart to continually sacrifice. Not only our material things but our efforts and our strength to be a blessing to others so that you may speak to us that we may help others. My Lord and my God, we glorify you now and eternally. In the name of your only Son, your only Son, O Lord, the salvation of the world, the Savior of the world, the Redeemer of the world, no other way except Him. He who was, who is and who is to come. The one that holds the seven stars in His right hand, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace, your Son King Jesus. We believe that it is done in Jesus' name."
