The Rock of Ages: Entering the Mystery of Spiritual Stability
True stability is not achieved through human discipline — it is received by becoming established upon Jesus Christ, the immovable Rock of Ages.
Every inconsistency in your life is an open door the enemy is exploiting. God is not simply sending blessings — He is building something upon you that will never again be a prayer request. The mystery of stability begins with understanding who the Rock truly is, and allowing yourself to be conformed to His image.
Teaching Overview
- The Rock represents God Himself — a symbol of divine stability, security, and firm foundation upon which the believer is established.
- Believers are called not merely to receive blessing but to subdue what God produces — recreating consistent results rather than celebrating one-time breakthroughs.
- Conforming to the image of Christ, not personal discipline, is the only path into true spiritual stability.
- The devil perversions the concept of stability by making believers fixed in unbelief, poverty, and struggle rather than in God.
- Excitement, expectation, and childlike hunger before God are markers of a living, unhindered relationship — the opposite of a hardened, stone-like heart.
Key Distinctions
| Rock (God's Stability) | Stone (Demonic Hardness) | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Divine, unshakeable foundation established by God upon which the believer stands | A hardened condition of the heart fixed in unbelief, poverty, and struggle |
| Who produces it | God, through conforming the believer to the image of Christ | The devil, perverting the believer's God-given capacity for stability |
| What it enables | Withstanding every attack; the gates of hell cannot prevail | Resistance to God's Word, encouragement, and transformation |
| What it looks like | Consistent fruitfulness, subduing, dominion, and expectation | Criticism, immovability toward God, settled disappointment |
| What breaks it | N/A — the Rock cannot be moved; it crushes what attacks it | Celebration, praise, clapping, and expectation before God |
| Biblical example | Peter declared by Jesus — "Upon this rock I will build my church" | Hearts described by David — "Remove this heart of stone and give me a heart of flesh" |
| Discipline | Spirituality | |
|---|---|---|
| What drives it | External structure, personal effort, and self-imposed routine | The need, desire, and love for God |
| What it produces | Religious activity that may be entirely of the flesh | Genuine encounter and communion with God |
| Who can have it | Unbelievers, athletes, anyone with willpower | Only those moved by the Holy Spirit and genuine hunger |
| Risk | Mistaking carnality for spirituality and self-exaltation for devotion | None — true spirituality is always Spirit-led |
| Example | Fasting 21 days by personal decision | Daniel fasting until God responds — no end date set |
| Sustenance | Breakthrough | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A one-time provision that meets an immediate need | Capturing the formula to recreate the same success over and over again |
| How long it lasts | Temporary — you will need it again tomorrow | Permanent — the results continue and can be replicated |
| Who controls it | The season, the enemy, or external circumstances | The believer who has learned to subdue what God produces |
| Prayer posture | "Father, give me a financial breakthrough" — repeated request | No longer a prayer request because the ability to produce is established |
| Diabolical | Demonic | Satanic | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | An evil intention to destroy | Satan orchestrating destruction | A sacrifice — someone deliberately given over |
| Who initiates it | Evil powers with destructive intent | Satan himself directing events | A conscious covenant with Satan |
| Example | A curse placed to block progress | A spirit assigned to ruin marriage and health | A life sacrificed through a covenant made with dark forces |
| Appearance | Image | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The outward, visible form seen by others | The inner nature and character one actually possesses |
| What we are called to | Not to appear like God | To be in the image of God |
| How Jesus demonstrates it | People saw Him as a man outwardly | Some saw Him as living waters, the Sun of righteousness, the standard of purity — all images of who He is |
| Our responsibility | Not imitation of outward form | Conforming to the same images Christ possesses |
| Temple of God | Synagogue of Devils | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The body indwelt by the Holy Spirit | The same body occupied by demonic forces instead of the Holy Spirit |
| Who dwells there | The Holy Spirit | Evil spirits — Jesus encountered a man in the temple with 4,000 demonic soldiers |
| What it shows | God's design for the human body as His dwelling place | The devil's ability to pervert everything good, upright, and God-ordained |
| The warning | The body is sacred and belongs to God | What is meant for God can be shifted into darkness |
The Rock as a Name and Nature of God
- God is referred to as a rock throughout Scripture — not a stone, but a mighty rock — because a rock represents stability, security, and a firm foundation.
- A rock cannot be moved or shaken; spiritually it represents a house that God has established upon which no attack, accusation, or demonic assault can prevail.
- When Scripture speaks about the rock, it is speaking about someone who has been established upon God Himself — the Rock of Ages, the immovable foundation.
"There is a while a thousand can follow on your side and ten thousand on your right hand — it is because you are established upon the rock which is God Himself."
Jesus as the Chief Cornerstone
- The Lord Jesus is referred to as the chief cornerstone because He is the foundation upon which the entire house is built — not just one of many supportive rocks, but the irreplaceable one.
- In the Old Testament, God is the rock; in the new covenant, Jesus is the chief cornerstone — both are foundations, but the terminology shifts as the covenant advances.
- Believers are built alongside Christ as the chief cornerstone, standing next to Him to hold up the kingdom He has established — not replacing Him, but established upon Him.
"Jesus is not just the rock, but is also the chief cornerstone. Not only the rock — Piedra principal Angul — meaning we cannot replace him. But we are built, and we are standing next to him, to hold up the kingdom that he has built."
Becoming a Rock God Can Build Upon
- When Peter confessed, "Thou art the Christ the Son of the living God," Jesus declared, "Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church" — Peter was transformed into a rock that Jesus could build upon.
- The moment you understand who Jesus is in His fullness, you become anchored upon the Rock of Ages — the everlasting rock — and God begins to build upon you.
- The gates of hell cannot prevail against those who are built upon the rock; what attacks the rock, the rock will crush.
"May you become a rock that God can build upon. The moment you understand who Jesus is in His fullness, the moment you are anchored upon the rock of ages."
Sustenance Versus Breakthrough
- A one-time financial provision is sustenance, not breakthrough — you use it today, need more tomorrow, and return to prayer for the same thing again.
- A true breakthrough, like a scientific breakthrough, means capturing the formula to recreate the same success over and over again so that those who come after do not need to repeat the research.
- Unless you subdue what God produces in your life, you cannot recreate the success — and without subduing, the enemy, the seasons, or the circumstances can always take it from you.
"Whenever science has a breakthrough, it means they can produce the same formula over and over and over again."
The Power of Subduing
- Genesis 1:28 establishes God's full intention: be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth, and subdue it — the word subdue means to control, to have governance over what is produced.
- Some people are fruitful but cannot control their fruitfulness; some can replenish what was lost but have no ability to replenish repeatedly — without subduing, results cannot be consistently recreated.
- God does not want to simply send money — He wants to build something upon the believer so that financial lack is never a prayer request again; blessing without the ability to subdue is temporary because the enemy can take it.
"Unless you subdue what you're producing, you cannot recreate the success. Because if I bless you without the ability to subdue, Satan can take it from you."
Conforming to the Image, Not the Appearance
- God's desire is that those who follow Him be conformed to the image of His Son — not to appear like God outwardly, but to bear His image inwardly.
- Jesus is seen differently by different people — as living waters, the Sun of righteousness, God Almighty, the standard of purity — all are images of who He is, and believers are called to conform to those same images.
- Stability in the new covenant cannot be entered by simply praying for stability — the believer must take upon the same image that Christ possesses.
"Don't confuse appearance with image because we are not supposed to appear like God — we are supposed to be in the image of God."
The Devil's Perversion of Stability
- The devil knows every believer has the God-given capacity to become a rock; his strategy is to help them become hard — but fixed in the wrong things.
- He wants believers to be stable in unbelief, stable in poverty, stable in struggles, stable in disappointments — perverting the very capacity for stability God placed within them.
- Those who have become spiritual stones can no longer be moved by anything God says — they become critics who cannot grow, cannot listen, cannot mature, and are ultimately immovable toward transformation.
"The devil wants you to be stable in your wrong ways. He wants you to be stable in your unbelief. He wants you to be stable in poverty. He wants you to be stable in struggles. He wants you to be stable in disappointments."
Excitement and Expectation as Marks of a Living Faith
- A child of God should carry an excitement before the Lord like a child who knows that at any moment, something can happen — an expectation of transformation, elevation, and encounter.
- When believers sit in the presence of God looking spiritually constipated, it is a measure of their internal condition — the joy of the Lord has been replaced by darkness and pessimism.
- The more a believer celebrates, the more the stony condition breaks — praise, clapping, and excitement before God scatter the hardness and release the person God has called them to be.
"As a child of God, there must be an excitement. Any moment you have to think about God, every moment you have to pray, every breath that you have, there should be an excitement that... This might be the day. This may be the moment."
Spirituality Driven by Desire, Not Discipline
- Spiritual activity — prayer, fasting, Bible reading — driven purely by external discipline is carnality, not spirituality; it can be performed entirely out of the flesh even when it looks holy.
- God does not want you to pray based on discipline but out of the hunger, the desire, and the love you have for Him continually.
- Grace, not effort, determines the weight of your time in God's presence — five minutes in grace may carry more weight before God than twelve hours of disciplined prayer.
"Spirituality should not be driven by discipline. It should be driven by the need and the desire, and the love that you have for God."
The Danger of Carnality Disguised as Consecration
- It is possible to do the right thing entirely in the wrong spirit — fasting while God has called you first to forgive your brother, pray while God is waiting for you to reconcile with your family.
- Daniel did not declare a 21-day fast — he fasted until God responded, placing no date on it because what mattered was the divine response, not the human achievement.
- Jesus did not plan to fast in the wilderness — He was led there by the Spirit, and the fast arose from the circumstances of the environment, not from a personal decision.
"God doesn't want you to pray based on discipline — God wants you to pray based on the hunger. And the desire to be with Him continually."
Generational Curses and Demonic Covenants
- A strange death in a family — as distinguished from a natural death — is diabolical, demonic, or satanic; it indicates a spiritual debt being collected by a power that was promised something.
- Covenants made with demonic forces — even in desperation, such as seeking healing from barrenness through a traditional priest — produce spiritual claims that persist across generations until broken by the blood of Jesus.
- The spirit attached to a family will identify the strongest intercessor in the family and target them specifically, blocking the very blessing — such as children — that was promised to the originating covenant maker.
"A strange death means it is Diabolico or demonic... The spirit came back to claim what it was promised, years ago."
Key Definitions
Rock — God Himself, as referenced throughout the Old Testament and identified as Jesus Christ in the New Testament; the symbol of divine stability, security, and firm foundation that cannot be moved, shaken, or overcome.
Chief Cornerstone — The title given to Jesus in the new covenant, describing Him as the irreplaceable foundation upon which the entire church is built — distinct from the other rocks that support the structure, because if removed, the house itself collapses.
Subdue — To control and govern what is produced; the God-given mandate in Genesis 1:28 that goes beyond fruitfulness and replenishment — possessing the ability to recreate success consistently so that neither the enemy, the season, nor the circumstances can take what God has produced.
Breakthrough — Not a one-time provision, but the capturing of a formula to recreate the same success over and over again — as in science, where a breakthrough means the results can be replicated by anyone who follows the same process.
Sustenance — A temporary provision that meets an immediate need but must be sought again; distinct from breakthrough because it is consumed today and depleted tomorrow, leaving the believer in the same prayer posture again.
Stability — The condition of being established upon Jesus Christ as the Rock of Ages — not a discipline achieved, but a reality entered by conforming to the image of Christ, so that financial inconsistency, spiritual wavering, and repeated defeat are no longer possible.
Strange Death — A death in a family that is not in God's time; identified as diabolical (evil intent to destroy), demonic (Satan orchestrating events), or satanic (a life sacrificed through a covenant), indicating a spiritual claim being collected by a power that was promised something in a previous generation.
Key Takeaways
- God is consistent, and therefore everything built upon Him must be consistent — any inconsistency in your life is not God's design; it means the enemy has found a way in, and a correction must be made.
- Subdue is the mandate beyond fruitfulness — being blessed without the ability to subdue means anyone or anything can take what God gave you; true dominion requires the capacity to govern and recreate results.
- Conforming to Christ's image, not spiritual discipline, is the path to stability — praying for stability without becoming conformed to the image of the Rock will never produce the stability being sought.
- The devil targets your God-given capacity for stability — his strategy is not to destroy you outright but to make you hardened in the wrong things, so that your gift for consistency works against you rather than for God.
- Excitement and expectation are not optional expressions — they are spiritual weapons — the more you celebrate, the more the stone breaks; praise scatters hardness and releases the person God has called you to be.
Reflection Questions
- In what areas of your life are you experiencing inconsistency — and are you treating it as a normal fluctuation, or as an open door that must be addressed?
- Have you been celebrating sustenance as though it were breakthrough? What would it look like in your finances, health, or family relationships if you actually subdued rather than just received?
- Is your prayer life, fasting, or Bible study driven by genuine hunger and love for God, or by external discipline — and how can you tell the difference honestly?
- In what ways might the enemy have helped you become stable in the wrong things — fixed in unbelief, disappointment, or low expectation — while your God-given capacity for stability remains unused?
- What specific generational pattern in your family — barrenness, financial collapse, failed marriages, early death — may trace back to a covenant or transaction your ancestors made, and have you ever brought it before Jesus for total breaking?
Prayers and Declarations
Opening Prayer
"Father, we thank you in the name of your Son Jesus for the grace you have given us to be in your presence. Father glorify yourself now. Show us your goodness in your kindness. We fire us and sanctify us all Lord. Show us Father who you are, continually Lord, that we may know you that we may walk on the path that is right. Father today we pray that you lift our all our burdens, take our way our sins, take our way our weaknesses, that we may know you as you are. Father we thank you for the mighty things you do among us today. Thank you for what is already done that we cannot even see or perceive. But we thank you that the name of your Son Jesus would be known amongst us, not just in work but indeed, Father glory for yourself now."
"Touch your neighbor, say:"
"I am entering into stability — in every area of my life."
"Somebody said break in the name of Jesus. Lift your voice and begin to break!"
"Break! The name of Jesus! Every demonic altar that's turned off the well — break! Every single one, right now in the name of Jesus! Every demonic hunter raised against our family — let it be broken now in the name of Jesus! Every curse — break! In the name of Jesus Christ! Whatever instrument — in the name of Jesus Christ!"
"Everybody lift your hands in the air. Lift them to the king of glory. Lift them to the Lord Jesus. Tell the Lord to turn your situation around. Take 30 seconds and pray. Lift your voice!"
"Lord Jesus, You have the power to turn everything around. You are my Lord and my God. Turn everything around for me. Change my health! Change my financial situation! Change my children! Change my family!"
"Shout, say I am blessed. Shout, I am blessed, seven times:"
"I am blessed. I am blessed. I am blessed. I am blessed. I am blessed. I am blessed. I am blessed. In the mighty name of Jesus."
"Lift your hands to heaven."
"Father, your people have heard your word. They have believed your word. They have established themselves upon you, Lord Jesus. You are the rock of ages that we depend on. You are the only one we rely on. Father, we pray in the name of your Son, Jesus, that we will be established upon you. Father, do what no man can do with us. Form us into rocks like Peter that you can establish your work, your will, your desires upon us. Father, made that man that woman be an instrument of grace, an instrument of healing, an instrument of deliverance, an instrument of expansion, to everyone that is around them in the mighty name of Jesus! Father, I pray that every prayer they have, every desire they have, it is theirs beginning now. It is theirs beginning now. It is theirs beginning now. In the mighty name of Jesus! Father, prosper them, Father elevate them, Father increase — Father, show them your grace and your mercy. Father, we thank you not only now but eternally. In Jesus' mighty name."
"As a prophet of the living God, in the mighty name of Jesus, I release it to you. I release it to you. Receive what you have been waiting for, receive what you have been waiting for. Receive what you have been crying to the Lord Jesus for. In the mighty name of Jesus. It has been established. It has been established. It has been established."

For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name. Thou wilt prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations. He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him. So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows." (KJV)
- Psalm 18:1–2 — "I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower." (KJV)

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."
