The Unknown: Moving From Belief Into the Depths of God
The Unknown Revealed: Moving From Belief Into the Depths of God
The depths of God are never on the surface — to know Him fully, you must surrender the known and enter the unknown.
Everything that is profound is unknown. The depths of God are not found in shallow, common places — they are hidden in the unknown realm, accessible only to those willing to leave behind what is familiar and comfortable. Moving from belief into faith is not a matter of acquiring more information; it is a matter of sacrifice, surrender, and encountering God by the Spirit in ways that cannot be reached by intellect, flesh, or religious activity alone.
Teaching Overview
- The depths of God exist in the unknown realm — not in what is common, surface-level, or accessible to everyone.
- Belief and faith are fundamentally different: belief is sustained by grace and requires no evidence, while faith is substance and requires sacrifice to enter.
- Seeking God through Scripture alone, intellect, or visible signs keeps a believer in the realm of the known — where there is no power.
- Moving from belief to faith requires God to strip away the comfortable substitutes and push the believer into the realm of the unknown.
- The Holy Spirit — not the physical Jesus — is the abiding presence through whom believers access the unknown depths of God from within.
Key Distinctions
| Belief | Faith | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A conviction with no evidence or substance | Substance — the evidence of things hoped for and not seen |
| What sustains it | Grace — God upholds those who are not yet of age | Sacrifice — entering the unknown by giving up what is known |
| Role in salvation | Belief is the requirement for salvation — it is a free gift | Faith is not the requirement for salvation; that would make salvation costly |
| What it produces | Attracts grace; can lead to settling for substitutes (e.g. Ishmael) | Receives the impossible; draws resources from the heavenly realm into this world |
| What God does to move you forward | Keeps you in belief for a season — then removes comfort to push you forward | Requires everything to be stripped away so you can see by faith alone |
| Danger in remaining there | Satan can offer something that glitters and appears like gold | N/A — faith requires moving beyond what is visible and comfortable |
| Known | Unknown | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it is found | Surface-level, common, accessible to many | Deep, uncommon, hidden — accessed through sacrifice |
| Who can access it | Anyone — including theologians, historians, unbelievers | Only those willing to surrender comfort and enter unfamiliar territory |
| Power available | No power — "whenever you are dealing in the known, there is no power" | The realm where God manifests exclusively and profoundly |
| How God is perceived there | Jesus as prophet, teacher, historical figure | Jesus as Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace |
| Salvation | Kingdom | |
|---|---|---|
| What it requires | Belief — a free gift of grace, no faith required | Seeking — active pursuit into the unknown realm of God |
| Who defines it | God's grace extended freely to all who believe | Discovered as you enter the depths of who God is |
| Entry point | A confession — "He is only a confession away" | A journey into the unfamiliar — requiring sacrifice and Spirit-led encounter |
| What remains hidden | Nothing — salvation is freely given | The layers of God are based on secrets in the unknown place |
| Common/Shallow | Secret/Deep | |
|---|---|---|
| Who has access | Everyone — including the world | Few — those willing to leave behind what is familiar |
| How God appears there | God as generally known — prophet, miracle worker | God as He truly is — layers of divinity progressively revealed |
| Example in Scripture | Disciples who walked with Jesus before the resurrection — knew Him but could not recognise Him after | John the Revelator encountering the angel of the Lord in Revelation 1 |
| Flesh/Physical Manifestation | Spiritual Manifestation | |
|---|---|---|
| What it produces | Belief only — no substance | Faith — substance, the evidence of things not seen |
| Who can receive it | Anyone with eyes to see | Only those to whom the Spirit reveals — "the world cannot receive him because they cannot see him" |
| Danger | Remaining in physical expectation keeps you in the realm of belief | Without Spirit-led encounter, you cannot move beyond the veil |
The Unknown as the Location of God's Depth
- Everything that is profound about God is unknown — if it is known to everybody, it is no longer secret or deep.
- God will always make those He uses something He has never done before — and that requires entering the unknown.
- The beings that inhabit the unknown realm are also mysterious — encountering them without discernment can cause a believer to mistake them for God.
"The depths of God are not in the shallow places. They are in the deep places. And if you're going to go to the deep places, you have to understand that you won't find a lot of people in those places."
The Danger of Seeking God in the Known
- Seeking God through Scripture alone, apart from the Spirit, keeps a person in the realm of the known — where there is no power.
- A theologian can master Hebrew, Greek, and English and come out with zero manifestation of the Spirit, because they are dealing only in the known.
- The secret things belong to God; what is revealed is meant to facilitate entry into deeper secrets — not to remain at the level of common understanding.
"You seek the scriptures thinking that in them you will find life, but the scriptures only point to me."
"Whenever you are dealing in the known, there is no power."
The Layers of God and the Unknown Realm
- The same Jesus manifests differently depending on the depth of the unknown realm a believer has entered — Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace are not titles describing different beings but different veils of the same Jesus.
- The disciples who walked with Jesus before His resurrection did not fully know who He was — they recognised Him as a powerful prophet, but not as God incarnate.
- How you know Jesus is directly determined by how far you have entered the unknown realm: "Based on the unknown realm you have entered, it determines how you know him."
"Based on the unknown realm you have entered, it determines how you know him."
Ignorant Worship and the Unknown God
- Many Christians ignorantly worship God — legitimately pursuing Him, but without true knowledge of who He is in His depth.
- Paul's declaration at Mars Hill — "To the Unknown God" — applies to a large portion of Christian practice today.
- The world cannot receive the Holy Spirit because it cannot see Him; but the believer can know Him because He dwells within.
"Many Christians ignorantly worship God. There is an ignorance when it comes to the pursuit of God, legitimately."
The Difference Between Belief and Faith
- Belief requires no evidence and no sacrifice — it is the starting point of the spiritual journey, sustained entirely by grace.
- Faith is substance — it is not merely a feeling or conviction, but the actual evidence of things hoped for and not yet seen.
- Everything that is not of faith is sin — yet faith is not the entry requirement for salvation, because salvation is a free gift that grace upholds.
"Believing worked for salvation. It did. Was faith engaged when you got saved, yes, but not by you."
"Faith is substance. Belief is not."
Sacrifice as the Gateway From Belief to Faith
- God moved Abraham from belief into faith not through more evidence but through sacrifice — He commanded him to divide and lay the animals, because it is only in sacrifice that the unknown is entered.
- Settling in the realm of belief produces substitutes — Ishmael — that appear close to the promise but are not what God intended.
- Isaac's willingness to be bound and sacrificed by his own father at approximately 33 years old was a voluntary act — he understood he was the provision, and his DNA of self-sacrifice made him fit to be an ancestor of Christ.
"It is only when you begin to sacrifice you enter the unknown. You don't go beyond the veil without sacrifice."
Belief and Hope as the Foundation — Not the Destination
- Belief and hope work together — hope keeps a person going, but it is not substance and cannot produce what God has promised.
- When God holds a believer in the realm of belief, Satan can offer something that glitters and appears like gold — a substitute that looks close enough to the promise.
- God's way of pushing a believer from belief into faith is often to remove comfort, deepen lack, or worsen circumstances — not to give a confirming sign.
"Believing and hope is the bed you build faith on."
"When you're in the realm of belief, Satan can give you something that glitters and you think it's gold and diamonds."
The Holy Spirit as the Abiding Presence in the Unknown
- Jesus told His disciples He would send another Comforter — the Holy Spirit — who would abide with them forever, because they were being moved from knowing Jesus in the flesh to knowing Him in divinity.
- The world cannot receive the Holy Spirit because it cannot see Him; the believer knows Him because He dwells within.
- Praying to see Jesus in a physical or visible form is a symptom of remaining in the realm of belief — He is already inside; seeking Him externally reflects a failure to recognise the transition into the spiritual realm.
"If you pray to see the Lord Jesus, you are like the world. He is already inside of you. Why are you trying to see what is inside of you?"
Destiny, Demonic Deception, and Fighting in the Dark
- Destiny cannot be stolen or exchanged — for those God foreknew, He also predestinated; to steal a destiny would require undoing what was established before creation.
- Witches, wizards, and occult practitioners have no real understanding of destiny — they equate wealth with fulfilment, but destiny is an assignment interlocked with a specific group of people.
- Deliverance ministers who take their cues from demons rather than from the Holy Spirit have made flesh and blood the enemy — which contradicts the clear instruction of Scripture.
"There is no end the Bible that says, they can take your destiny. They can stifle your destiny, but they can't exchange destiny."
"The issue with deliverance ministers is this, not all but most. They take their cues from demons, not from the Holy Spirit."
Key Definitions
The Unknown — The realm of God's depth that is not accessible through common knowledge, intellect, or religious familiarity; the place where God's most profound realities are hidden and where sacrifice is required to enter.
Belief — A conviction with no evidence and no substance, sustained entirely by grace; the starting point of the spiritual journey that does not require faith and is sufficient for salvation but insufficient for moving into the depths of God.
Faith — The substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen; a spiritual reality that draws resources from the heavenly realm into this world and is only entered through sacrifice and the unknown.
The Comforter — The Holy Spirit, sent by the Father at Jesus' request, who abides with believers forever; the means by which Jesus remains present within the believer as they move from knowing Him in the flesh to knowing Him in divinity.
Destiny — A God-ordained assignment interlocked with a specific group of people a believer is called to serve; established before creation and impossible to steal or exchange, though it can be stifled.
The Known — The surface-level realm of God accessible to everyone, including unbelievers and theologians; a place where God can be studied but not encountered in power — "whenever you are dealing in the known, there is no power."
Key Takeaways
- The depths of God exist only in the unknown — Remaining in what is common, familiar, and widely understood means remaining on the surface; those called to manifest God profoundly must be willing to go where few will go.
- Belief and faith are not the same thing — Confusing belief with faith is one of the most common spiritual misunderstandings; belief is the starting place sustained by grace, while faith is substance that requires sacrifice and entry into the unknown.
- Sacrifice is the only gateway from belief into faith — God does not confirm the promise with signs while a believer is in the realm of belief; He removes comfort, deepens need, and strips away substitutes to push them into the realm where only faith can operate.
- The Holy Spirit is the abiding presence through whom God is known in depth — Seeking Jesus visibly or externally after being born again reflects a failure to recognise that He now dwells within; the transition from knowing Jesus in the flesh to knowing Him by the Spirit is the transition into the unknown.
- Destiny is established before creation and cannot be stolen — Fighting spiritual battles over destiny being exchanged is fighting in the dark; what God ordained before creation cannot be undone by witchcraft, sorcery, or any spiritual force.
Reflection Questions
- In what areas of your life have you settled for an "Ishmael" — a substitute that looks close to the promise but was produced by your own effort rather than God's design?
- Are you currently seeking God through the known — Scripture as information, visible signs, theological understanding — without pursuing the unknown encounter with the Holy Spirit that produces actual substance?
- What has God been stripping away in your life that you have been resisting? Could it be His way of pushing you from belief into faith?
- What specific sacrifice are you unwilling to make that may be the very gateway into the depth of God you say you are seeking?
- Do you know Jesus primarily as the Jesus of salvation — "only a confession away" — or are you actively pressing into the unknown to discover Him as Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, and Everlasting Father?
